Greg Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I fished at Taneycomo today and saw some conduct that just totally appalled me. I started fishing at the rocking chair and as I was working my way downstream I observed 2 guys doing the "shuffle". First off these 2 guys were a lot more blatant than anyone I have ever seen. They were literally standing side by side shuffling and one would drop his fly at his feet or his buddies feet and they were catching a lot of fish. That was bad enough - but it was their catch and release "technique" that was the worst. One of the guys whenever he was releasing a fish would literally throw it. I'm talking chucking the poor fish either over his shoulder or throwing it like a baseball several feet. What he was trying to prove I don't know. As I worked closer to them I finally said something like "That's not very sporting is it?" They just smirked at me and continued shuffling. I finally couldn't take it anymore and left their vicinity. I wish there was something more I could have done - but I didn't have my cell - and I'm not even sure if what they were doing was illegal enough to report. It kind of ruined an otherwise great day of fishing. The weather was nice and the fish were cooperating. denjac Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 There is always some idiots anywhere you go. Guess I am ignorant as I dont know what shuffling is. Kicking up the bottom? Saw 2 guys this afternoon fishing way up past the cables, they didnt catch anything that I saw, but sure was hoping the man would stroll down that way. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 12, 2006 Root Admin Posted June 12, 2006 They were out... I saw Quinten on the water. I'm sure they made their rounds- just be everywhere at the same time. Alot of people really believe because it's "free fishing" this means- "no rules". Seriously!
MoCarp Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 There seems to be a new sport in outdoor activities--"TOOLING" the younger generation refers to what we used to call "A-HOLES" as "tools" any ways the tools lurk the web and find activities that really fire up folks "like shuffling" in our carp groups case, bowfishing the areas where we post about having a fish in, usally during your event right off your rod tips!! or do it before the event and scatter shot fish up and down the banks/boat ramps... NOT always against any regs, but still rude and bad mannerd-- what this does is anger one group to the point of seeking new regs to stop "tooling" behavour. some "rebel" personality types will go to places to flame off folks and I am sure that some of your shufflers are just that "Tools" JMHO MO MONKEYS? what monkeys?
gonefishin Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Great info Mo. And absolutley correct. I have tried to explain this to people before but it has been difficult for me to get them to understand what I mean. In general when I am fishing I don't worry about what others are doing unless it is or intimidating, dangerous or seriously illegal. If someone is out there breaking the law they will eventually get caught and if I am not perstering the bejesus out of the enforcement agent and sending him all over the place for every little nit picking thing, then there is a lot better chance the law breaker will be caught because the enforcement officer will be doing what he needs to do where he needs to be doing it. Some people don't seen to have anything better to do than just be annoying. I am a bank fisherman and I can guarentee you within an hour of setting up in a spot to fish, if there are boats around, there will be some boater who thinks it is funny to do a fly by. You know, turn his boat at the highest speed possible to fling the biggest waves possible towards me. Others will use their trolling motors and get just as close as possible to me just to prove something that I dont understand. If I were to call the enforcement officer everytime this happened all he would ever get done is to chace boaters (ie tools). All I would accomplish by reporting all of these people is getting suckered into playing the tools game and keeping law enforcment from catching the real law-breakers. I would rather be fishin'.
