Members BLUEWATER Posted July 7, 2010 Members Posted July 7, 2010 GatorJet, I agree that you have a valid point on the larger streams/rivers. However, I once had a a GLoomis rod broken while being runover by a jet boat on a part of the Meramac that is only about 7' wide. The location is right above where the Dy Fork enters the Meramac from the north at a very narrow and shallow channel. I could not get out of the way fast enough while wearing waders to prevent the accident. I realize that almost all sportsmen are kind and considerate of fellow sportsman, but, a few bad apples spoils the whole bunch. The plough or plane argument will never be settled because of the words "jet Boat". It is perhaps a primitave argument but it does carry some validity in rare cases.
Gatorjet Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 I was having this problem a few weeks ago when we were down between short creek and fall creek. After idling through everybody a few times I said heck with it and just started running across the shallow flat around everybody. The only thing people did was wave frantically at me to not go that way because of watching all the prop boats smoking logs and bottoming out. They didn't realize I had a jet unit on the back. I notice the looks also. Some because the Gator is pretty unique, and with thru the hull above water exhausts pretty loud. Some are waiting for the big crash, and some don't know what to think. Even the Blue Herons when I go between them and the shore! LOL Real men go propless!

That is why I won't go above lookout when there is no generation and the Fly Fishermen are out wading. Even though I could run all the way to the dam with 0 units, my personal choice is no boating above lookout in that situation. I have plenty of good fishing water from Lookout down. In fact, that is where my best catches have been this year, generation or not! Real men go propless!

The best fishing started a few hundred yards down from Lookout anyways.

I bet you would really get some stares if you trimmed your jet up and shot a 100ft rooster tail behind the boat LOL.

Sometimes when I'm clear of everybody I do have to get a little showy and run the trim up. It's more like 200' though! Plus down lake I like to wash the bottom of the bridges. LOL Real men go propless!
