Nelly in Branson?

With the July 4th announcement of plans for the first show at the newly remodeled Grand Palace to be Hip Hop and Rap performer Nelly, I have to wonder.

Who are the new owners, and promoters of the Grand Palace, and is this the beginning of a slap in the face of the people who built Branson.

Is this the end to the family entertainment mecca that Branson has been. They claim they want to bring in a new generation. A younger crowd because they have the money to spend. HUH??? You telling me that in the past 20 years I have been visiting branson that I haven't been spending money? The tour busses full of seniors haven't been spending money? The families that visit Silver Dollar City, the Go Karts, the water parks, etc haven't been spending money?

Wake up Branson, and do what you do best. Wholesome family entertainment!

It's been a few years since Nelly's prime. Perhaps he wants to test the area as a possibility for building his own theater.

America is in cultural decline and has been for several decades. I find Branson to be pretty lame to begin with, so adding Nelly to the lineup doesn't change much for me, but it does seem totally incongruent.

Nelly is not my thing but can see why they did it. Theres a ton of under 25 folks that go to Branson with Mom , Dad , Grandpa and grandma. They dont want to go see Andy Williams. Good Buisness move in my opinion. Good or bad for Branson? Time will tell.

Come on guys, Ive been a resident of Branson for 47 years, I ve seen them come and go.Im not a kid , but just cause a young persons singer comes to town doesnt mean they are anti family.Half of the shows on the strip at one time or another have people upset with, languge, costumes, liqour, music too loud, etc, etc etc.Let him come .Hey I dont complain when things upset me, I usually sit in the corner and tremble. Have a wonderful day.

The Nelly concert got shot down.

I did hear that the permit they applied for two days after they made the announcement in order to have the concert outside in the back parking lot was denied. The city officials said they would do everything possible to help them to have it inside the Grand Palace.

The reason they stated that they wanted it outside was they didn't think they would be done with the renovations before the August 21 date.

Now, read between the lines! According to the KY3 report, the promoters claim the event will attract 6000 people. 6000 people inside a 1000 seat theater. This is really starting to sound fishy!

I copied this from www.1branson.com forum

From KY3

The application lacks additional detailed information required for approval: No state liquor license has been applied for.

•No state or city business or sales tax license has been applied for.

•The noise issue has not been addressed in the application.

•Lack of detailed crowd control – emergency exits and aisles.

•The City of Branson has concerns regarding the effect of a large outdoor concert in this area because:

•Parking lot is not designed for large outdoor concerts.

•The event, which organizers say will attract 6,000 people, would require 2,000 parking spaces, and since two-thirds of the Grand Palace back parking lot is being used for the performance, spectators would have to park elsewhere on private lots and we have no documentation of approval from adjacent business owners for this parking.

•The combination of noise and parking will have negative impact on our surrounding businesses.

•The city’s Special Event Permit Application requires additional documentation when applicants will utilize loudspeakers and amplifiers, temporary structures like tents, merchandise sales, food service, alcohol sales and electrical wiring. No detailed information was provided concerning these activities
