Flysmallie Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 What would you say is the demographic of Nelly's followers? 15-25 or something like that. What? He has followers? I have no idea. It's not my thing and I don't listen to that crap. I was just saying that something different needs to happen without blaming it on Bush, Obama, Clinton or any of the other liars in charge. I've seen Skynard in the area many years ago. And I think that would be great to bring in some acts like that. Or really anything for the 35 to 45 crowd, but also something you wouldn't be afraid to take your kids to. That's where the money is at, family vacations. Nelly is not the answer, but they will figure that out soon enough. It would be funny to see a bunch of old Caprice Classics with 24" spinners sitting in the lot at Moon River though!!!
eric1978 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Skynyrd died with Ronnie Van Zant in the plane crash in '77. It's just not the same without him. I saw them about 10 years ago, and they were...underwhelming, to put it nicely.

strangercreek Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Last song I played in my truck today on the way home was "Needle and the Spoon". I'm also a big fan of RVZ, but I think the current lineup is OK to, just not a replica of the past. I also like the current lineup of Molly Hatchet, even though they are just using the name (in my opinion anyway). Skynyrd's original music was about the streets, plenty of jail, booze, drugs, hard times, women, their songs pretty much talked about it all. I wonder if David Allan Coe would draw a crowd in Branson, and then what would people say when if he played a song or two from "X-Rated Hits". For anyone putting down bad lyrics, I know there are probably at least a few Coe fans in SWMO by default. An interesting Skynryd fact. Steve Gaines did his first live performance with the band in Kansas City. What an awesome guitar player AND awesome vocalist. I think he was a key part of Skynyrd near the end. If I remember right, didn't Molly Hatchet play in Branson at the Grand Palace with Charlie Daniels a few years ago? (addressing the comment of bringing acts like that to the area)
Flysmallie Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Molly Hatchet is going to be at the fair in Springfield. But since I'm scared of carneys, I'm not going.

Gatorjet Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 Maybe if Nelly is a success he'll return with David Allan Coe as a warm up act. Talk about diversity!!!!! Real men go propless!
Members Mo Mac Man Posted July 22, 2010 Members Posted July 22, 2010 There have been many acts come through for 1 night that don't fit the demographic. Nelly is not changing the demographics of Branson. No one is talking about Nelly getting a theater. If we're going to argue something, argue the reality of the situation not hypotheticals. Aside from that, it's always seemed the most successful shows in Branson didn't have the biggest stars. Look at Jennifer in the Morning. Great marketing. Her face was everywhere. I'm planning a 4 days in Branson and I'm amazed at how expensive everything is. Close to $200 for family of 4 on the Branson Belle. 165 for Dixie Stampede. $75 for the Ducks. $150 for White Water. $200+ for SDC. At some point Branson is going to price itself out of business.

I have my doubts about this. Branson is the only "within driving distance" destination for way to many areas.
