Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 19, 2010 Root Admin Posted July 19, 2010 Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I'm looking for a good windproof fleece jacket. Exclude Orvis and Patagonia.
denjac Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Columbia makes one although I dont own one. But I have never had a regret with any Columbia apparel that I have bought. http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Ballistic-Windproof-Fleece-Jacket/dp/B000UC2W3G Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. skeeter Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I have two of them. One heavier than the other. The lighter weight one came from Cabelas and has zippers under the arms you can open for ventilation. Very good quality and almost completely waterproof. Good jacket for boat fishing unless really bitter cold. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21082-cat604566&id=0027166950201a&navCount=4&podId=0027166950201&parentId=cat604566&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true The other one, much heavier fleece and warm like you wouldn't believe came from Duluth Trading Co. http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/clothes-workwear/mens/mens-outerwear/75007.aspx?feature=product_2 Heavier fleece and very good quality as are most of their products.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 19, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted July 19, 2010 Mountain Hardwear - anyone own a Mountain Hardwear jacket. Found very good reviews.
Al Agnew Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Wife and I have Mountain Hardwear jackets that we've owned for several years. Excellent quality and very durable. I highly recommend them.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Simms . You might spend $425 to get one... but you would be the most windproof / most warm and comfortable guy who is out $425. Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

If you're looking for really quality outerwear, stick with high-end backpacking gear companies. Mountain Hardwear, Arc Teryx, Marmot, Patagonia (you'll pay big bucks for those), even North Face isn't bad. REI actually makes some decent stuff for much better prices than the top-notch brands.

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 20, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted July 20, 2010 Brian- I don't EVEN like the looks of that Simms jacket so, no, I'm not going to spend the big bucks for it. If I ever win one in a contest, I'll give it to you.
