So many people are now realizing that times have changed. That the four legged animals are not the true dangers in the out of doors anymore. Stories of Pot farms, meth labs, more and more. Many desperate individuals with the economy in the tank. Looks like there are changes coming to laws in many conservation agencies across the nation. Including Missouri.

Hunter Personal Protection: It's a New World

Dean Harre, Law Enforcement Specialist with the Missouri Department of Conservation, said the new regulation specifies handguns may be used for personal protection only and not for hunting. Starting with an educational "phase-in" period beginning with the 2010 hunting seasons, the measure will become fully effective on March 1, 2011.

This reminds me of elk hunting in Oregon. It was illegal to carry a sidearm during rifle season, but inspite of the many did carry them because of the big cats.

I should clarify the article a bit more. Where this change was first brought to my attention. The following email was just provided clearing the changes up a little more clearly. You must be a concealed carry permit holder, qualified law enforcement officer, or retired law enforcement officer.

MR, XXXXXXXX

I don’t remember giving that quote, especially since the article doesn’t even provide my correct title. Nonetheless, the information regarding the new Regulation allowing properly licensed individuals (Concealed Carry Permittees and qualified law enforcement officers or retired law enforcement officers as defined in the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (18 USC 926B or 18 USC 926C) to carry concealable firearms while deer and turkey hunting, but not allowing them to hunt with these firearms - is indeed correct.

Here is some of the verbiage that will appear in the March 1, 2011 Wildlife Code of Missouri – Under: Deer Hunting Seasons: General Provisions 3 CSR 10-7.431 (Firearms possessed under this exception may not be used to take wildlife while deer hunting. Proof of this exception must be carried while hunting); Deer: Archery Hunting Season 3 CSR 10-7.432 (Firearms possessed under these exceptions may not be used to take wildlife while archery hunting. Proof of this exception must be carried while hunting.) and Turkeys: Seasons, Methods, Limits 3 CSR 10-7.455 (Firearms possessed under these exceptions may not be used to take wildlife while hunting with a bow. Proof of this exception must be carried while hunting.)

Please keep in mind that handguns are already allowed for hunting during the firearms portion of the deer season as long as they are not: concealed, fully automatic, and capable of holding more than eleven rounds of ammunition.

If you have any further questions please let me know.

Thanks and take care,

This might be paranoia but I have, lately, been concerned that I might walk up on somebody poaching on public property and immediately becoming a witness.

It's not a "new world", it's the same world with media assisted paranoia added.

Sounds like a bunch of propaganda to me. Where are all the reports of pot farmers attacking people in Missouri ? Just another case of adjusting the laws to combat a "percieved" situation.

This last Spring a turkey hunter witnessed someone walking "suspiciously" along a dry creekbed, he reported it and had the law combing the woods for 3 days looking for a meth lab or a patch of weed. Turns out it was just an old guy looking for mushrooms. The ol'boy is lucky they didn't shoot him on site.

Just try shooting someone outside your home, while calling it self defense or whatever, and see how things work out for you from that point on. If you're afraid of meth ninja's, pot farmers, and booby traps in the woods, then stay at home or go to the mall where you feel safe. LOL

How about we agree that you can choose to do what you want where you want. And I and other people can choose to ignore someone that thinks so much of themselves or their importance. That they assume the ability to tell others what they should or should not do.

I always thought it was legal to carry a sidearm anywhere as long as it wasnt concealed. On another note Razor Dobbs caries a sidearm with him everywhere he bow hunts.

Open carry while not illegal by state law is allowed by the state to be regulated by any local municipality and many townships have decided to do so. Licensed Concealed carry is preempted by state law and their for is exempted from local ordinances.

And what is the "percieved" (there's that word again) advantage to carrying concealed, verses strappin' that hogleg on where everyone can see it ?
