Gavin Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Would love too take a whitewater or a canoe poling class...Tell me where and when, and I'll try to get there.
Zack Hoyt Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Guys, Bobber is the real deal. If you get a chance to take a class from him, definitely do it. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions

bobber Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 ok guys, looks like we have the intrest. and thank you ZACK for the support!! ...rather than sending IM'S OR E-MAILS i would like to show the process here out in the open if you don't mind so all can see how this works. (if you don't mind.) first what kind of canoe are you paddling now? tandem or solo.? next, what types of water do you paddle.. lake..slow moving.. or fast rushing water.(this helps me understand how to put the groups together) next question would be, what do you want to learn.. paddle strokes ..boat control.. safety on the water..most people can make a canoe move. but just make it down stream with the shear luck of the river gods.. other feel they have skills, just not sure on where and how to put them in action... next, do you understand how to read the water on the river? so please give me a short report about your skill levels. and what part of the country your from . <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
fishinwrench Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Hey Bobber, what are the chances of getting some video coverage of this shindig, I'd love to personally attend but time and distance work against me. wrench
bobber Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 ..don't know about any video. but I may have to travel to find some moving water. and i'm guessing all my new students are from the SHOWME STATE. so you might be in luck..ALL MY RIVERS ARE DRY. not lucky enough to have all the spring fed stuff you guys have. need to find something with some rapids deep enough to do self rescue swims ,and shallow enough to sink a canoe, and be able to re-cover it. got anything that just jumps out at you? over your way. <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Stoneroller Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I have a sit on top kayak and fish everything from lakes to rivers, both fast and slow. I'd like to learn more about fast water rescue and safety techniques, even if that is paddle strokes to keep you out of trouble or reading water to pick a safer line or tying knots and rigging lines. I think it all kind of ties together and there is always something to learn in every experience. Training is a much safer way to prepare than to wait for all hell to break loose. Wheatenheimer Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 North Fork of the White quickly comes to mind. Bobber, first of all, thank you for extending this invite to all of us. Here is where I stand. I have a 14' Two Brothers Royalex canoe. I use it a lot as a solo, but it does see a fair amount of action as a tandem, usually with my girlfriend or my Golden Retriever (they weigh about the same and are equal paddlers!) I took a Red Cross sponsored paddling class back in college (early '90's) and have continued to do a fair amount of paddling since. I feel very comfortable on most Ozark streams, at most water levels; although, I am not as brave/confident as I used to be. Believing that I am an adequate paddler, I know that I still have room for improvement. Thanks again, Bobber and I look forward to meeting all of you and strengthening our skills together!
