Gary Lange Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 It is common practice on web sites such as this to keep the River, Creek or Stream to yourself when posting your catches. That was the way it was in Illinois when I was up that way and I don't see it changing any time soon. Make friends become trustworthy and you will get some good spots to fish from those friends. Respect your Environment and others right to use it!
eric1978 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Make friends become trustworthy and you will get some good spots to fish from those friends. And that's a wrap. Well said Gary.
flytyer57 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 And that's a wrap. Well said Gary. And yet the forum has places to post on which stream you fished. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
10pointer Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 And that's a wrap. Well said Gary. BINGO! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the subject but I can tell you this from experience that once word gets out on a limited resource like a few certain small lakes or streams i know...that they will be cleaned out and ruined once people open their mouths. I dont have a single problem talking about areas of the current and other places everyone knows about but those small lakes and streams can be fished out fairly quickly. I had an awesome bass lake that a few people knew about when i worked at BPS and one of the guys I took told a few people and soon there were people everywhere fishing it and taking big breeder bass out of the lake. I used to land at least 5 or 6 5lb-9lb bass every night out there............and now noone i know has caught a decent fish the past couple years. It doesnt take much.... Believe what you want but ive watched it happen!!! ok im done beating the dead horse
Chief Grey Bear Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 And yet the forum has places to post on which stream you fished. Very true. But all of those streams are 50+ miles long too. I may post what stream I was on but, I wont tell you what 5 mile section I floated. That would be more than appreciated. I can see if the stream is no more than a ditch like some of the trout streams back up in WI that you don't want to post a stream name. But, if it's a well known stream, and sizable stream, I see no problem with naming the stream. Even gotmuddy said he didn't need GPS coordinates, he'd just like to know what the name was. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

I stated in post #2 of this thread: I don't have a problem mentioning a bigger river, but I won't be naming any small streams or creeks. So what's the problem? We seem to agree.
flytyer57 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 So what's the problem? We seem to agree. No problem here. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 But, if it's a well known stream, and sizable stream, I see no problem with naming the stream. I have to laugh at that one, where have you been? That's what we've been trying to get across, its the small streams, none of which are secret, but they don't need promoting. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
