Pflueger was far and away better.

I'm interested in the US Reels, although they have a sticker that says made in China, LOL

I wanted the 240SX, the big one, for 10lb mono and a medium/heavy action rod.

Should I buy the Pfueger Arbor instead? I don't want the aforementioned bail problems..

I have both the US Reel 180 Series and the Arbor. I prefer the US Reel but not because the Arbor is a bad reel it is just to big. The smallest Arbor they make is a 30 series which is the same as the 240 series in the US Reel. I use the 180 US or 25 Series Plueger. My first Arbor had an issue as well. The Anti reverse did not work 90 percent of the time. I would have to rap it hard on the gunnel of my canoe flip the switch 7 or 8 times and pray. Very Frustrating Day. Dealer replaced it and the new one works great. I like both and the large spools really help.

I have not found a reason to use the larger 30/240 series reels on any of the Secret rivers and creeks I fish. They are heavier & bulky. The 25/180 just have a better feel on my rods. I have never lost a large smallie (the ones I cant show pictures of) to reel failure. The 4LB Smallie in my avatar was caught on the 180 and 6lbs Fireline Crystal with a Flora Carbon leader on the Ouachita River just west of (what the haite am I doing) On some river in Arkansas.

Okay, thanks id10t

I'm going to buy the 180 and the 240.

180 for creeks

240 for big lakes and rivers

The price of US reels has dropped a bunch.

I'm paying $45 per reel, right now.....

They have the new X series. Same reel just a bit heavier and only 2 bearings.

For those who like the Plueger President series reels. Gander Mountains house reel is a rebranded president. 10-15 bucks cheaper.

This thread is insane!

You guys really need to find a hobby. If it isn't one thread it's another...but it always ends up at the same place.

I like to talk a lot of trash at times but you guys must be really bored. Or you just forgetting that when Phil gets back he will be sending you guys some emails expressing his kudos and shudders of disbelief .... Haha.....trust me...I have had a few of those myself!!

I think he has disowned me more than a few times!!! Love ya Phil! Believe it or not...I am working on my foul vocabulary.

And Eric, love ya bro, but I am starting to understand why people got sick of seeing my posts all the time when I first joined OA....

When you guys used to say I had a wise remark about everything.... I used to blow it off.... but now I realize how annoying it is to see some guy give his two pennys about every subject! Was I really posting 10 to 20 posts a day? Do you guys think Eric has me beat or do I still hold the gold ribbon for the biggest mouth on the site?

I am grateful we have a place to hang out and talk some fun even if it isn't fishing related but I have learned a few things over the years.

The number one lesson is the dog pile loves a new target and they always are looking to change the subject!!!

Second, politics and religion have no place in a public "fishing" forum.

Third, Catch and release subjects will only get you killed!!

Fourth, If you are a bleeding heart liberal you better have a thick skin.

next, if people start talking about a dead horse it is time to make a new thread

Sixth, If you ask for advice about gear you are going to be told to buy the most expensive crap

Seventh, Never talk bad about fly fishermen who like to wade waters with a hundred other guys

Let's not forget, If you want to pick on somebody...go after the guy who has posted the most opinions that day!!!

Haha....maybe we can make it the top twenty things not to ignore about OAF members....

I am sure there are a lot of stuff we are tired of reading about here and dead horses need to be put to rest....

Darn it...I forgot....this thread was about people not giving up their honey holes....

Number nine! Never loose track of what we started or the thread is pointless.

Number ten is obvious.....If Phil can't show it to his family it will be deleted and/or dog piled before Trav can put his two coins in the mix. Even when Trav is trying to stay out of it...wink

By the way... you can't beat chicken wings with Franks redHot!

And you can talk reels all you want....Penn is the best and it dont matter what rod you buy because you are going to break it anyway...hehe
