bigredbirdfan Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I have two jon boats that I would like to have sealed up with a product on the outside. Is anyone offering this type of service in Southwest Missouri?
skeeter Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Not sure what you mean by "sealed up" ? Do you have unpainted aluminum on the jon boats ? If so, there is a product I saw on one of the Powerblock shows on SPIKE TV or SPEED channel ( Truck U ? )called "Sharkhide" that they rubbed on a piece of diamond plate aluminum by hand. They also applied it to a thinner piece of aluminum and then proceeded to bend it back and forth many times and the coating did not flake or crack off the metal. Suggest you try Googling the brand name and see if it is what you want.
OzarkFishman Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Also look at a product called Gluvit. You can order it online and apply it yourself.
gotmuddy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Also look at a product called Gluvit. You can order it online and apply it yourself. thats what I would use. They have been using it on airboats in Florida for 30 years. I am going to do it to two of my boatsthis winter. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
bigredbirdfan Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 Thanks for the suggestions....unfortunatly the boats are both factory painted green and this product won't work on painted surfaces. I would be opposed to sandblasting them down to apply this product. I wouldn't want a reflective boat in shallow stream wather.
DChance Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Not sure what you mean by "sealed", but if you are looking to shine them up (yes painted aluminum) and protect them from the elements. Use BTS (Bow to Stern) www.btsproducts.com. You can use it on the whole boat to protect it from fading and it makes cleaning very easy at the ramp.
Members DLM84 Posted May 7, 2011 Members Posted May 7, 2011 I too don't understand the question. With Aluminum and Fiberglass the boat companies put all the finishing touches on them that they should need. Now I have seen some people "upgrade" their boat by replacing the carpet with one of those spray on bed liners for trucks. That was one sweet set up. To bad my boats are simple riveted john boats so not shure it would be a good deal for me (no floor) soo.
gotmuddy Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 The coating allows the boat to slide over rocks better and keep leaky rivets from leaking everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members DLM84 Posted May 8, 2011 Members Posted May 8, 2011 So you put it on the out side? HHhmmm I wonder if this would save some gas or at least make it easier to row?
grizwilson Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 A few of my friends have fiberglass bass boats with wraps. They were installed as a sponsor deal however they seem to love them as it makes the boat slick and easy to clean plus provides protection.... My question is 1) could it be installed on a Alum. boat? 2) would it help the alum boat "slide" over rocks etc better as we know Alum hangs up. Just considering for a riverboat application. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
