jdmidwest Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 It is Tuesday night and was surfing the channels. Started watching Basic, the movie on a channel that used to occupy FX and realized, IT IS NOT FX ANYMORE! Was warned last week during Sons of Anarchy that we may be losing it, but thought it was just some clever advertising from Direct TV to get more subscribers. Seems like it was true, Dish would not pay for the FX, and Nat. Geo Channels any longer. They cried that FOX was upping the rates 50%, but since my rates have increased over the past 6 years from $20 to $55 for the same service, I felt I was covered. What a scam. My Dish stuff is heading for the junk heap. Trouble is, Direct is crap too, and I live in the country where we have no options. Even the local channels are gone for the most part since the switch to analog last year. Oh well, Jackass is on MTV, that is always quality TV..... Plus side, I may just spend some more time online with all of you! "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Trout Commander Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Not to poor salt on a fresh wound, but, in our area those with DISH will be losing FSN as well. Hope your not a Cards fan... I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
denjac Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 My wife and I are the minority. We just have local channels. Now that everything is digital we get 9 or 10 channels . When we had cable and dish I spent most of my time surfing trying to deciede what to watch. We have been without cable for almost 8 years now, dont miss it at all. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. flyfishmaster Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I'm right there with you JD. I too have Dish and I have to say 60% of what I watch was on FX, then "poof" it was gone. At least I got the first 4 episodes of "Sons" on the DVR. Lets get this crap fixed Dish Network! Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
jdmidwest Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Now I am going to miss Terriers tonite. Looks like we are going to lose Fox News as of NOV. 1. National Geographic, another good channel is gone too. If I had access to higher speed internet, I would just watch them on there, but don't have that option either. Oh well, guess I will just have to tye some flies. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
eric1978 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Sounds like a terrible business decision made by Dish...I have a feeling they'll be losing a lot of customers over that. Losing Nat Geo and FX would be a bummer, but any cable subscription without FOX News would probably make it worth it. Give me Discovery, HBO, the other "news" channels, and the Sunday talk shows...they can keep the rest of the garbage for all I care.
Trav Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Hughes internet is worse. I moved to a place where there is no Phone DSL or cable access and am "forced" to go satelite. Hughes has a 500MB limit until 1AM so I have to save all my uploads/downloads until Late at night. It really is robbery to pay a hundred bucks a month for internet and still have a limit to how much it can be used. Living in the country sure does cost a lot of money!!! I think that 500mb limit is a monthly limit, not a daily limit. At least that is what Skyway has on mine. I do major stuff on work bandwidth, I use Teamviewer and cue up downloads from my office computer after business hours and dump them on a usb stick when I get to work. Look into Skyway if you have a landline. $39 a month for 128k access which only lets you surf a little faster but still no streaming video, youtube, or pic intensive projects. They have better plans also and you install/own your own equipment. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

I know it sounds like a lot but it goes fast when they include all the downloads used while browsing. Each page you load adds to it. I used five percent of my daily allowance just reading OAF while drinking my coffee this morning and I still have a fantasy football team to maintain....another five percent there... I also run a website for a non-profit and go through a 30 to 50MB everytime I have to update through the Host company. I have learned to take advantage of the "free" hours of 1AM and 6AM. Just kind of sucks when you have no other options. I have a landline but the phone company says they don't support highspeed net in my area. One mile north and one mile south I would be OK....kind of dumb. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
