ollie Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I thought that the first time I went into the C&R zone on the Norfolk! My brother and I went to pay the guy to park (which I understand is no longer there) and he just kinda gave me a funny look and told me to just ignore everyone out there. My brother flyfishes and I use a spinning rod. We got down to the water and I swear I could feel the eyes upon me! Especially when I started to catch a bunch and they weren't! Even though no one actually gave me grief over it I still felt like an outcast. I still felt like they were being snobbish towards me. That was just how I felt I suppose. I realize now that most fly fisherman aren't snobs now, but this was about 8-10 years ago and I had a different perspective on things. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
stlfisher Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I would like to see that list as well. Any style of fishing can be seen as exclusionary given the right conditions. It seems trendy to pick on the big bad elitist fly fisherman. Can we put and end to these debates...it get's so old...and nothing is ever solved. To the OP, glad you had a great time at Blue Springs. I like the picture with you and your daughter. Sounds like full camo and crawling through the brush may be the way to go on this stream.

eric1978 Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Do you want names or just screen names? Yeah, I wanna see the list, because I don't think you have one. I haven't noticed any of the snobs here...they're all busy posting on the Drake.
ozark trout fisher Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I'll just bet you that I am on said list... I don't know of anyone on OAF or elsewhere that has a problem with spin-fishing, myself included. As a matter of fact, I'd be willing to bet that all of the so called "purist" fly fishers on here pick up a spinning rod sometimes and enjoy it too. Again, myself included. The whole idea that you even could characterize as snob someone you have never met in person is a little absurd in itself. But still Drew, I'd like to see the list. You seem to be looking down on those elitist fly fishers a lot more than anyone else is looking down on spin-fisherman.
Flyflinger Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Maybe somone should start a seprate post for the Flyfisherman are snobs debate....I think the original intent was to figure out how to fish Blue Springs effectivly. There is no limit to what a man can do or how far he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit
mic Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 This was my post and I don't mind. The only problem is I'm not sure if I'm one of them or us. I love using both. The fly rod for is technique and presentation, and the spinning rod for ease and fun (although you can tear them up with good technique). So...I'll keep reading until they figure it out...an butt is an butt...no matter what he is caring in his hand (for the net cops...I meant donkey, yea that's it). mic

Be nice to folks, even when they're a you-know-what. John

Naw, what's the fun in that? Better to follow the deceased equine, kicking it all the way to the glue factory.. What else do us elitist fly guys have to do on such a blustery day? cricket.c21.com
