About ten years ago while plinking with the 22 in the parents pond (LoZ area) shooting frogs, turtles, and what ever I could find. I had a Mnt Lion walk up on the oppisite bank about 100 yards away, needless to say it didn't take me long to get back into the house. I moved Spf for college and work, a couple years after and still heard stories about neighbors goats missing, and found a day or so later a few hundred yard away up 10 feet in trees. So I knew that they were still around there even though MDC said no-way, and have always heard that the make a screaming sound like a girl being killed. Five years ago this coming gun season I was sitting in my box, (an 8x8 blind built about 6 feet off of the ground)about day break I hear a scream that sent chills up my back, that sounded like it came from under my box. Knowing that varies animals make my box home from skunks, coons, and Bobcats, I just knew I was setting in this things home and it wanted in. I did see a few dear that day but saved my ammo for what made the noise I had heard earlyier. 10 am came and here comes dad with the truck to pick me up so we could go in for lunch, on the ride back I told him what had happened. He told me what I heard was a peacock of the new neighbors,(land is about 100 yards away from my stand). I didn't hunt the box any more that year.

Anybody ever see a water witch? It's what I call one of those mini water spouts. I experienced one while fishing my neighborhood pond in St Louis County. I was probably 12 or 13. It started on the far bank, maybe 50 yards away, and came in a line right towards me. I remember being mesmerized by it, kind of wondering what was going to happen. It came straight to me before quitting right at my feet. It sounded like a turbo-charged eggbeater turning the water, but when it came up to me I don't recall feeling so much as a puff of wind. It was maybe a foot tall at the most. Weird. As a kid I thought of it for a time as a totem or talisman.

I've never even heard of anything like this and have no idea how I would react if I ever saw one.

I'd definitely be curious as to what's in his water bottle.. ;)

Ever been driving through open areas like Oklahoma, Texas or even the desert in Arizona, and see a Dirt Devil?

A water witch is the same thing, only water. Miniature tornadoes that start from the ground and only grow to about 5' in height.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

BY isn't that explained by opposing forces of wind on extremely blustery days? How do you get that in a body of water with no appreciable current?

Any possibility you could find a video of one? I tried and couldn't seem to locate one... (or find a definition on Wiki, for that matter)

Please note: this most certainly doesn't mean I don't believe you, I'm just from the show-me state...

I was night fishing the upper shoal at McClellans about 10 years back and had to use the water closet. They had one near the trail to the upper shoal and I was sitting there in the dark with the door open dropping a deuce. I heard foot steps coming quickly toward me and it freaked me out so bad I started yelling at what ever it was, in hopes of making it stop.

Not a chance. It kept coming and I was kind of crawling up the back of the toilet with pants down trying to get away. Well I had a little mess going back there when it finally came into view. It was two armadillos running side by side right towards me. They split up and went around each side of the johnny and kept going.

You would think it would scare the crap out me but I never did finish my business in there.
