I'm a Kansas guy, but hunt some in NW Missouri. Mixed reports coming from there this year. A friend hunted Bilby and didn't see a bird, nor did the folks he talked too. We saw several pheasants up on a property near Tarkio a couple weeks ago (youth) but didn't shoot. Did a long tough hunt near Maryville but struck out again. Great habitat, a ton of turkeys but only one rooster. Haven't seen a quail this year. KS opener this weekend...

We have a farm in IL, on the east side of the state and we'll go out with two dogs around Thanksgiving. Brittanys

Last year with one dog we shot 8 birds in 4 hours or so.

Good luck, and report your success.

I will too.

Tomorrow it's off to Bennett with the family till sunday.

Deer hunting in Mo. this weekend, then loading up Finn (my Boykin Spaniel) for a trip out to central Kansas for a few pheasants and quail next weekend. Seasonal businesses are a real downer ;)

My old dogs both recently went to the happy hunting grounds, and I'm to broke to do the usual trip to visit my family and do a week of Pheasant/Quail like I like too anyway.

Maybe next year.

I have some awesome places to hunt, mostly private land. Too bad it's 400 miles away.

Phil -- am I remembering correctly that you're from Pratt? I think I saw that somewhere. We hunted Pratt & Greensburg area over the weekend. Lotsa birds this year but really wet and muddy and hard to get around.

Justin -- Good luck with your trip this weekend. I may go out again, not quite sure what the plans are yet. I remember Finn -- is he a hunter?

RSBreth -- sorry to hear that. It's never easy to lose one, much less two. Time to get a new one ready for next year!

Oh yeah, love to pheasant hunt. We're restoring 30 acres to grasses (Mondamin IA, just north of Omaha) and it sounds awesome out there, pheasants cackling big time. One more year and I'm going to hunt it. Trying to keep the riff raff out is getting tiresome. We don't live there full time but you can see tires tracks on the property when we go up on some weekends. Didn't want to fence or post it but........

A lot of work and no respect. Pizzes me off.

Hunted South Dakota opening day and knocked them dead. First time up there and it was awesome. Heading to Iowa the first weekend of December like we have every year for the last 20 something. Also will get a few quail hunts in Missouri. I love to bird hunt. If anyone need a hunting partner with a pretty darn good pointing dog let me know.

Let's go.

Ness- Finn is an okay pheasant dog (flusher) but a great retriever we duck hunt more than anything and he does very well. Haven't got him on any great pheasant hunts yet so hopefully this weekend will be the first. He's done very well tracking and retrieving wounded birds and works pretty good in the field. A little hard to keep track of him in CRP because he is so small and the others I hunt with think a bell makes the pheasants run. I helped with a continental pheasant hunt last year and Finn loved retrieving the birds he got some big 150 yard retrieves and had no problems. Have tried to get into some woodcock hunting but have had very little success. I know a few people around do well when the birds are migrating, but I've yet to get the knack. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post after this weekend, not looking forward to the 9 hour drive tomorrow. I always forget from year to year how far it is to get out there.

Ouch -- 9 hours one way? Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Let us know how you did and post up some pics.
