Gatorjet Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Between me having surgery 2 weeks before opening day of firearms deer season, and my daughter-in-law giving birth to my first grandchild a couple days later, my son and have missed this year. I would like to hear how everybody else did. By the amount of acorns on the ground around here, and the good weather, I would expect that we missed a great opening weekend! Real men go propless!
jdmidwest Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Opening day started with a drizzle and warm, then North wind started blowing, cooled off and blew hard the rest of the day. It was slim pickin's. I took a doe on Sunday, buck run 5 off the hillside about 8 am. Woods are very dry, a squirrel makes about as much noise as an Elk walking thru the woods. We need rain and cooler weather. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Seth Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I seen 9 deer the first morning and that was it all weekend. On Monday, I popped a big doe with the .243. Dad's got two does and my girlfriends dad has gotten three does and a buck so far this season. I'm hunting for bone the rest of rifle season. They are playing hard to see for me though.
sms_alum Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 We had a good opening weekend. We have 4 hunters and everything shot a buck this year. Heading back out this weekend to get a few does,
Dutch Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Our group has harvested 6 bucks and only seen 2 does so far.
Members BigMinnow Posted November 19, 2010 Members Posted November 19, 2010 I missed a nice 12 pointer opening afternoon and haven't seen another buck all week. So I decided to shoot for meat and have a button and a small doe in the freezer. Shoot the doe on the walk back to the truck and my button this afternoon was walking into my stand and noticed a new rock near my stand. I got to about 20 yards out a finally figured the it was a deer but couldn't tell witch end was witch, he had his head tucked under his leg. Got up to about 10 yards, thought about tring to get closer but he looked to tasty to let get away, so I whisteled and he stood up and I put him right back down. I got to say I found a new way to hunt I left the house at 10:30 drove to the farm walked in, shoot, and back home by 12:00.

I usually just lay in bed till daylight, get up and drink a pot of coffee, then take a little walk. If I don't shoot anything, we sit out in the sunroom and watch the fields till about 3 then walk the woods some more till dark. I saw 10 Sat, 8 on Sunday and had my doe in the fridge by noon. I killed a 10 pt last year out of the front yard and the 2 antlerless ones out of the field spotted from the house. Of course, you can only do that when you own your own land and control the hunters on it. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. sms_alum Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Sorry having trouble loading this yesterday.
kelly Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Kansas bow season is going pretty well. I finally got out on the 14th to clear my spot by a tree, no more ladders for me. Monday morning I hunted two hours, saw a buck and two does. Tuesday 7:08 AM he came in and stood broadside at twenty. He made it seventy-five yards. Not my biggest but I did it on the ground
flyfishmaster Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Gun season open in IL this past weekend starting on Friday 19. I was not able to get out until Saturday. My friend took me to a small piece of woods 2 acres in size, with a creek on one edge of it. Look what I found jumping out of the creek 10 yeards in front of me. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
