snagged in outlet 3 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Fished Parker with a buddy up and down from the access. He caught one nice rainbow on jiggy streamer and I was skunked. We went to the cable and somebody was already there, we left. Went to TanVat and 4 cars were in the lot, left again. Settled in at Baptist with only one car in the lot. The guy was walking out when we stepped in the water. We caught fish all the way down stream to the hard right turn. All bows and nice sized. My buddy stuck with the jiggy streamer and I nymph fished. We left a lot of flies on the bottom throughout the day. No for the amazing part. We are driving out and there is guy fishing at the handicap pier in campground 3, on Thursday!! He had a fish on when we saw him. SIO3
ColdWaterFshr Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Forsythian and myself and some other dudes went to Montauk during the Xmas break last year. Fishing was outstanding for several hours and we had the place completely to ourselves, never really questioning why as none of us are park regulars in season or out of season. Just thought it was open for C & R! So we caught several nice fish up to 22 inches and just about had enough of it all after several hours and were ready to head back to the cabin when one of my buds was stopped by a hatchery worker driving a golf cart, as he was fishing off one of the bridges - obviously we weren't sneaking around and doing this intentionally, but the worker kindly stopped and informed that the park is closed during the week. Just moments before this, Forsythian had caught and landed a huge rainbow that went several pounds. I highly recommend fishing the park when its closed. But there could be consequences.
ozark trout fisher Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I'd say catch and release fishing winter fishing in a trout park during the week is pretty far down on the poaching scale;I probably wouldn't do it knowingly, but I wouldn't necessarily look down on someone who did. I honestly think it's dumb that it's only open Fri-Monday. Why not be open seven days a week?

Randall Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Meramec is open 7 days and I haven't seen it too crowded. I don't see why they couldn't do it at Montauk too. Cute animals taste better.
ozark trout fisher Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 The place would be packed... But yeah, bums me out too... Maybe... But I don't that it would be too awful crowded on weekdays. Most people are working, and only bums like me who are willing to take off for fishing would be there.
stlfisher Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I agree I don't see why it isn't open 7 days per week. Most of the parks seem pretty wide open as the weather turns colder. I am heading down tomorrow and I am betting it won't be to crowded.
jdmidwest Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 They are closed to give the fish some rest. And I am sure they have extra staff for the fishing days. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Randall Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 If there aren't that many fishermen I doubt the fish would be too pressured. What other staff would they need for the fishing days? Cute animals taste better.
