Members trouthog Posted May 7, 2013 Members Posted May 7, 2013 well even though your are a SEEBEE.. i must thank you for your service.. lol i was USAF. I have thought of grey, but part of me says it should say origonal. i was goin to do that white till we we put it down.. holy cow is that stuff bright! it also shows way to much dirt.. but would be nice on the feet in 100 degree weather! i'm just kinda torn between updating it & keeping it old school.. i like old school..
Greasy B Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 What type of paint are you using? My boat has quite a few battle scars that could use patching. Fact is the trailer is more beat up than the boat and I'm at a loss on how to refinish it as well. Gavin Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 USMC myself, but no gripe with the USAF. I was an air wing Marine not a ground pounder. Thank you for your service as well.
Members trouthog Posted May 7, 2013 Members Posted May 7, 2013 sorry Gavin no disrespect ment.. lol but really thanks we all have a place ... & we thank go d for you guys! greasy b - i am using fiberglass vinyl resin & chopped glass mat where needed.. & the white is gel goat, just like Gay used.. you can get the stuff you need from any of the local boat builders here like bass cat or ranger... you can also contact rob williams at shawnee boats & he will sell you the gel coat as well.. 870-404-9791. just let him know you have an an older one you need to regel, i'm sure he will be more than happy to help you out.. all you need is a shady spot on a nice day , about 75-80 degrees & a roller w/ a dozen low nap rollers for the gel... you will need to clean w/ soap & water & then wipe w/ asitone.. of corse fix any gouges.. sand them out good w/ 36 grit & lat in some glass matt & sand smooth .. then get all smooth & roll out like paint.. anything that is not to your liking you can wet sand, apply more if needed &/or then just buff it ..once you roll it, it will be glossy all by itself..

gotmuddy Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 trouthog, what does that gelcoat cost? I need to get some for my JS boat. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members trouthog Posted May 8, 2013 Members Posted May 8, 2013 well i hate to say it but its all time dependant now a days.. with the prices of shipping & fuel it will change daily it seams like .. its sold by the #.. bot its about 5-6.00 a # .. & about 10# a gal so any where from 50-70 a gal depending on the day from rob at supreme ... bass cat has some colors & there doesn't seem to vary its 84 a gal. i haven't checked with ranger yet. hey muddy, i found a j&s on here for sale w/25 hp merc , jack plate & trolling motor for 8K, that seems pretty high to me for a used 2010... whats your input on this being an owner of one, i have never seen one up close.
gotmuddy Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I love my boat, 42" bottom, one livewell is dry storage, extended front deck with trolling motor mount and seat mount, strengthened front bulkhead. I wouldnt give that for a used boat. I REALLY like those topwater boats. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members trouthog Posted May 9, 2013 Members Posted May 9, 2013 I got the old one, its 34" wide, it's not bad for now, one day ill upgrade when the time is right. I like the topwater as well, they have the best fit and finish. But the 15k price tag is way more than I will drop for a new river boat... I know Rex Curley he is a long time and one of the best guides you will ever find. When I seen he was running a Playcraft River skiff it made me take notice. He said he loves his boat and that's saying a lot. He has had a couple of them. That's what I been looking at. Seems to be the best value in river boats today. I'm gonna re-gel mine for now & run it, try and save up some to get me a cash deal w/ a new 4 stroke.. I was with u, it just seemed high to me, but I did not know much about them. Thanks man
gotmuddy Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I wont be buying a new boat for a while, maybe ever. I really like cash, and I cant bring myself to buy a new one. Go four stroke, they are awesome, I love my mariner. I swear it makes gas instead of uses it. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
