Mitch f Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Your "very intelligent men" must have missed a few things, since I believe there have been a few amendments to the Constitution they drafted. Or are you opposed to those changes as well? Society evolves as it learns, and for the most part that's a good thing. It's a losing battle to fight scientific fact with ridiculous partisan rhetoric, and environmental progress will happen with or without you. But no doubt people like you are the reason all of us frogs just might end up boiled before we can jump out of the pot. Thanks a lot for keeping us in here and perpetuating the denial that there's no flame cooking our asses. I'm not sure I like the way our society is evolving, yes we need to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels, that's great. In many other areas we are going in the wrong direction, if that's evolving, I want no part of it "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 22, 2010 Root Admin Posted December 22, 2010 Is this the other one?
FishinCricket Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Yes, this is the one . Tattle tale!!! lol (I thought these threads were actually doing okay, Phil.. Was I wrong?) cricket.c21.com
lee G. Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 This one is by no means as bad as the other, Cricket, lol
jdmidwest Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I don't think this one has brought up religion or baby killin yet. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Al Agnew Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Yeah, I thought everybody mostly behaved themselves in this one. But I think it's about run its course. At least I think I'm done. I'll just suggest that anybody who wants to understand where the people who are really concerned about climate change are coming from, take the time to read two books. One of them was written last year and is easy to find..."Eaarth", by Bill McKibben. The other is a little older and harder to find..."The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight", by Thom Hartmann. The titles of the two books tell a lot about what they are about. "Eaarth" is spelled that way because McKibben makes the case that we are already living on an altered planet that is not the same planet on which our civilization developed, and while we should be doing what we can to slow and eventually stop climate change, we should be figuring out how to live comfortably on the new planet we've made. "The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight" was originally published in 1998, and first makes the point that we are living on the last vestiges of easily available oil (ancient sunlight, as in made by plants from the energy of the sun millions of years ago). It covers more than just climate change, basically chronicling a lot of ways we are screwing things up, including food, water, and forests. It also talks about the development of our civilization and the places we went wrong in developing it, and how we could fix them. You might not like or agree with what he says, but it should at least make you think.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 22, 2010 Root Admin Posted December 22, 2010 Tattle tale!!! lol (I thought these threads were actually doing okay, Phil.. Was I wrong?) It's not closed... is it? I don't keep up with these threads honestly. I skim over them when the pages start adding up and see how tempers are doing. Or I'll get an email from Dan or someone else - you know one of those red button alerts. I really try to get you guys every chance to keep it constructive and I do have to say for the most part 95% of you do. That's why I don't close threads right a way - I don't like to. I'd rather them close themselves with members agreeing to disagree and go on. Good night!
Tim Smith Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 There were two last subtantive points from the other thread and then everyone can stick their heads in the sand and suppose the world is out to get them. If anyone will actually bother to look at the East Anglia emails, you won't find fraud. Look at the text and read it in context and it's a group under seige and concerned that their normal work is going to be portrayed as some kind of evil conspiracy...what did Gator call them? "Terrorists?" As for "selling" the global warming science. The poll was sitting in about the same position as opinions about climate change in the overall society (60/40 against). I was actually suprised it was that close given how conservative fishing groups tend to be. But no. No one here is going to sell you anything. That's the problem already. You've been won over by a bunch of hucksters. It'll keep happening over and over until you man up and do your homework. Eventually you'll see the light. Too late, perhaps, but it's coming, no matter who you threaten to shoot. That's it I'm done here. The moderator is getting headaches and its time leave the field. Anachronism out.
