Cool! Do you have to modify your canoe in any way, or is your balance just that good?

Why is it so hard to picture someone doing something other than rolling over in a canoe or kayak when it hits the water?

I do more in my yaks than I ever did in a canoe because of the stability. My sit on top is stable enough to stand on, kneeling is a piece of cake. I shoot ducks, gig frogs, and probably catch more fish each year out of them than most on this forum I would wager. I have taken on standing waves that crash over the bow and still keep going while duck hunting in my loaded sit inside yak.

Just because you lack a sense of direction, you really don't need to pick on those that know what they are doing. Some of us have a better sense of stability, both physically and mentally.

Not getting personal, just passing along info about the the stability of the boats. The attack on Oneshot and his fishing methods and now this attack on Kayser about his stability was kinda personal don't you think?

Now if you did take it personal, then you might be starting to see how some would be taking some of your posts lately.

As I responded to you all is good. Thought I'd put this here though. I bowfish with several relative and we have been doing for about 20yrs. from a canoe. It just and old aluminum 17footer. We do it tandom with shooter in front and another in back to paddle and help steady it. We use plywood clamped to the rail as a kneeboard in the front with some padding. I'm 6'4 so the way it is designed my head is about 5' above the water giving me a good sight angle. The rest is lots of trial an empty live well.

Cool! Would you consider your method to be a mainstream method or an "unorthodox" one?

I'm just glad someone is bow-fishing the common carp in our clear water streams. According to Fishes of Arkansas by Robison and Buchanan, the common carp was introduced to Arkansas waterways in the 1880's from Asia. From the same source, "Competition does exist between young largemouth bass and carp of all ages for the available food. However, carp become most abundant and a nuisance in waters where physical and/or water quality degradation of habitat have already occurred and where such degradation has substantially reduced native fishes, particularly centrarchids and other predators" p. 177. Centrarchids are the sunfishes.

I wonder why we don't have a more aggressive capture/kill policy in regards to carp, especially in clear water streams?

I catch more fish from a canoe than the other methods Al listed.

Wasn't on the list but in truth I've found I catch most fish anymore with my 12 foot Jon and Trolling Motor.

Right on, oneshot. I run one of those on the local ponds for crappie and bluegill. Clean up on the bass, too.

As far as my stability- does it matter? Most people on this forum aren't all there, anyways. Yeah, I had a mohawk, but it was all in good fun, and I had my fun with it. It's gone now, but at least I had the guts and dedication to actually go through with it. Besides, you should've seen some of the looks I got while fishing on the Current and at Bennett- entirely worth it.

On a side note, I would like to add that I fell in love with sit-on-top kayaks this summer. I went fishing for bowfin (dogfish, grennel, etc.) as well as redfish over the summer while working in NC, and absolutely loved the stability of them. I could stand in the kayak, giving me a fantastic vantage point in the salt marsh, while being able to go over and through a lot of dead cypress in the backwater creeks. Also was able to cast a fly easily while standing up in it. The only thing I didn't like was how the bowfin liked to jump into the kayak with me, but that might have been a different issue...
