Ted Calcaterra Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I have always wanted to write a book someday about Flyfishing Missouri. I have been stock piling photos in case I decide to do it someday. I know that Chuck's book is the grand daddy of all Missouri flyfishing books but its almost 20 years old now. Do folks think that their could be another one and what chapters would it cover to make it different? I'm curious to see what the flyfishing community thinks of the idea? I'm not a guide nor in the industry but rather just a passionate angler who loves the sport.
Chief Grey Bear Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 The Grand daddy??? Not sure about that one. It has a lot of very good info about fly fishing in general but not so much about trout fishing in Missouri. It has a few very general maps of the trout parks and some hit and miss info about private parks and such. To me, it was more of a starter book for trout fishing. I am proud to have it in my outdoor library. I would like to get my hands on a book with plenty of stories and some general info on actual trout fishing in Missouri. Some real, hands on adventures with some first hand information about the area. I am not looking for exact coordinates,I just want to feel like I was there with you. fishinwrench Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Without the commercial slant, and the political correctness. There's nothing wrong with a writer displaying his true feelings and character.... that is unless he/she is ashamed of himself or is insecure about the accuracy of what he is putting out there. If I ever write a book I'll be making some blunt statements along the way, and I won't be apologizing for it on the last page. Too many books are being written where the authors main goal is obviously to never step on a toe and make sure EVERYONE loves him.

Imagine that, you being blunt. Ted, the thing you have to do is capture your audience. It does not matter who you are, as long as it's well written.
Gavin Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Ted, the field is open.....Chuck's out of the writing game so do it the way you want too.....some of his Trout books are great in some ways..Some good hatch chart info in some, not in others..200 smallmouth adventures..is a very good floaters guide...but you have to scout it.

Chief, one of my favorites although not just for trout fishing is "Brent Frazee's Ultimate Guide To Missouri Fishing". It covers Missouri lakes, rivers, and streams fishing for most all fish...bass, trout, crappie, catfish, etc. It also lists guides available to some of these waters. Phil, Bill, and several other names we know are mentioned in this book. If you have a chance to pick one up, I highly recommend it.
