flytyer57 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I can not see a time when a communist country is not led by a dictator. The form of government is all about taking freedoms away from the populace under the guise of protecting them. Ain't that kinda like what happened here in the good 'ol USA when they signed the Patriot Act? Hmmm.... Maybe Bush was a communist. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
gotmuddy Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Ain't that kinda like what happened here in the good 'ol USA when they signed the Patriot Act? Hmmm.... Buzz Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 not even close. FDR was the closest thing America had to a dictator. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_D._Roosevelt I don't know about that Muddy. A lot of his stuff is still active today. Good stuff too. Aside from being elected to 3 terms as President I don't think you have a leg to stand on with that statement. FDR was and still is one of the greatest Presidents this country has ever had. JMO, but I think a lot of people would agree. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
gotmuddy Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 FDR vastly expanded governments role in the day to day lives of everyone in the country. He forced banks to shut down, and opened 13 new federal agencies. Congress also gave the Federal Trade Commission broad new regulatory powers The FTC controlled interstate commerce and found ways to tax it. . Roosevelt made agricultural relief a high priority and set up the first Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA). The AAA tried to force higher prices for commodities by paying farmers to take land out of crops and to cut herds. Government interference in food prices. Recovery was pursued through "pump-priming" (that is' date=' federal spending). The NIRA included $3.3 billion of spending through the Public Works Administration to stimulate the economy, which was to be handled by Interior Secretary Harold Ickes. Roosevelt worked with Republican Senator George Norris to create the largest government-owned industrial enterprise in American history, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which built dams and power stations, controlled floods, and modernized agriculture and home conditions in the poverty-stricken Tennessee Valley. The repeal of prohibition also brought in new tax revenues and helped Roosevelt keep a major campaign promise.[/quote'] That was the best thing FDR did, he put people to work. This is something Obama will NEVER do, but that is a different topic. The real goal was to force people to use paper that was meaningless and make them totally dependent on the federal government. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
gotmuddy Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 BTW, unemployment was through the roof until WW2. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
troutfiend1985 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I can not see a time when a communist country is not led by a dictator. The form of government is all about taking freedoms away from the populace under the guise of protecting them. I really think that you should research what communism really is if you're going to make these type of statements. What you have seen in China and the USSR is not necessarily what communism is supposed to be. The main problem with all of the nations that are communist, or have been communist, is that the have looked to this political theory in order to save a crippled nation. However, the theory was based upon taking a nation that was already strong economically, but economically uneven, and dispersing wealth. What the world has seen is the cart before the horse, and that's just not going to work. You make these broad statements, communist countries don't care about their people, and Democratic Republics do? I think that you will find that the more you understand these concepts, the more you'll realize that in general people, as oppose to a generalized political theory, don't care about each other. And anyways, don't most governments restrict the liberty of their citizens with the rhetoric of protecting the population? And if you are talking about FDR, the politics of that time, and why this change happened. I know that you may be against FDR, but the time of FDR the Federal Government couldn't enforce a minimum wage because of the strength the supreme court placed on the contracts clause. See the Lochner case, and read about the switch in time that saved nine. FDR was in no way a dictator, but he was in a situation, both economically and politically that we have never seen before and hopefully never see again. And pointing to a president in today’s US with comparisons to FDR is a hoax. There is no way to compare these two people muddy because the situations are not the same. And I'm not sure what a president, constitutionally speaking, can do to affect the situation. It is simply not inside the powers granted to the president by the Constitution. Point to your local government and congress. Guys bashing bush can point to congress as well as they are the people who passed the Patriot Act, and congress had the power to veto the war in Iraq but chose not to do so. That ends my rant for tonight “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
eric1978 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Chernobyl had no containment structure and pitiful safety precautions. Comparing it to US nuclear plants is absurd, but not surprising coming from you. 40% is owned by British interests, 39% by US interests. The CEO is british. Link me to where the BOP not working was Halliburton's fault? I could go on debunking every inaccurate or false thing you say...but I'm not going to. You'll just go right around it like you did with the post above. This is why it's a waste of time...forcefield of denial. If you go through life listening only to yourself, you'll never get any smarter.
skeeter Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 FDR was elected to FOUR terms and that led to the XXII Amendment installing term limits for the Executive Branch. Now, we need term limits (oh boy, do we ever !) for the Legislative Branch. Odd thing about the XXII was that it was begun by Truman and the Hoover commission he appointed in '47 and Truman was FDR's V-P who served his remaining term out after FDR's death in '45 and then Truman was elected in '48. Congress passed the Amendment in '47 and the necessary number of States ratified it in '51 making it law.
Justin Spencer Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Nuclear plant hands down. they bring lots of jobs and money to the area. I went to high school within 15 miles of comanche peak power plant in glen rose, TX. The BEST winter bass fishing I have ever had. I forgot about the fishing advantages of nuclear plants. We lived in Port St. Lucie for a while and the Nuclear Plant on Hutchinson Island was a great winter fishing spot for tarpon, jacks, manatees, etc. But was closed to fishing once 9/11 hit us. Wolf Creek near Burlington, Ks has some outstanding walleye fishing and I think they even limit access to the lake which makes it even better. As fishermen we take advantage of nuclear and hydroelectric depending on the type of fishing we prefer, why not more dams on the muddier rivers of the midwest, no one seems to complain about the damming of the Neosho, or rivers like it.
