A few years ago me and a buddy were fishing on the Elk when I managed to cast my countdown Rapala over a tree limb. Carelessly, I gave it a good yank, at which point lure flew towards me and lodged the front treble hook firmly in my upper left butt cheek. I knew the fishing line trick, but the lure was in such an awkward place that I couldn't perform it on myself and I didn't trust my buddy to perform it correctly. At that point I decided on plan B, which was for my buddy to cut the hook at the shank and then push the point on through (yeah, it hurt). What made the situation even funnier is the fact that, as some of you may know, a rather busy highway runs right along the Elk river. Sure enough, as I stood there hunched over on the gravel bar, hands on knees, with my buddy apparently doing something to my butt with a pair of needle-nose pliers, a group of kids drove by and honked at us and yelled something that's considered politically incorrect by today's standards. I won't type it here but it rhymes with "BAGS!!!". In hindsight (no pun intended), it reminded me of the scene in that Austin Powers movie where he and the blond chick were in the tent together, but in this case it wasn't a hot blond, unfortunately, it was a dude. Dan-o

I never would have admitted that.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Just a good thing your poll allow for multiple selections. I have been stuck and have stuck myself many times. For those that fish with me usually I'll mention the sharpness of my hooks. ;)

Ive hooked myself several times.. and a few times way to deep...

But 2 year ago was probably the worst...

It was on a 2441 size 6 (Salmon hook)...

about 9pm at night .. kids were in bed and I and just sat down and started to tying..

one of the kids had to of dropped a hook into my tying chair .. I never saw it..

I dropped my scissors and moved back to pick them up... as I slid forward it stuck through the cloths (sweatpants)... and went into the "jewels"... I couldnt get out of the chair .. I was PINNED .. I had to call the wife home from work and told her I had stuck myself with a hook and need her to help me take it out/to clip the hook barb off.. when she got there and saw what had happened... and saw where the hook was she laugh for a hour.... and still couldnt keep a straight face to cut the hook... Finally we got it out and everything is ok now!!

from this day on.. I ALWAYS look into my chair and rub my hand on the seat before I sit down....

1 lesson I learned quickly!

Yeah JJ another reason to go barbless. Nothing like reaching down to release a fish when it makes that last little wiggle and it buries the hook all the way to the end of you bone on your thumb. 2499spbl's come out easy but they go in just as easy.

I agree, Leonard wins this one hands down, or in this case, sitting down.

Great story Leonard. I can't top it. I think my total sticks is somewhere around 6. I remember two flying lures, one of which was a 4/0 spinner bait hook. Two, no three, were flopping fish sticks. The most recent was a kick the rod handle while holding the lure. Forgive me, but I'll link to the recently published story. By the way, my story is the next one after one of Phil's articles. If we were playing football, I would say you were "sacked". That hurt me to read that one.

Good thing Leonard did not have to go "barbless" after that one.
