I've always fished them with a cast straight across stream and then let them swing. It seem that most of my hits come at the bottom of the swing, so get in a hurry to make the next cast. I agree with Dano that they seem to improve with some wind cover.

I fish them just like Al, usually in a two fly rig. They are a must use in the low clear water of summer and autumn, my favorite is a red butt. I catch fish on the swing also but don't specifically swing them.

I made up a version of a soft hackle that I have never seen before. I know it's a take off of an existing pattern, but do I get to name my version? It works very well in MO and AR.

I don't see why not PEte. I think it should have your name on it, like that local ledgend guy from the norfork. I can't think of his name right now. Somebody help me out. I have heard Dano mention the name before.

Davy Wotton. He has some DVD's available on tying and fishing traditional wet flies and soft hackles including multi fly rigs.

That's not the name I am looking for. He fished at Mcclellands alot, maybe in the 70's and 80's.
