laker67 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Spent the better part of 4 hours on sunday attempting to outwit 2 nice browns and 2 nice rainbows. The 2 browns and one of the rainbows refused everything that I threw at them. I managed to fool the other bow only to come up with an empty hook set. It was a great day, temps were good and the crowd was light. Today, I managed to redeem myself. I got on the 2 browns early, and within 30 minutes had both hook ups and one landed. It was a good looking 5 pound female and a good fighter. The other brown, which was slightly smaller, ran me through the moss and broke off my 7x tippet. Hearing a report about a nice rainbow in the blue pipe hole, and my luck running good, I decided to go see if I could find her. On the walk up, I was thinking about how neat it would be to catch the first "reported lunker" out of the newly renamed "blue pipe hole". I eased down the pilings side but did not see the fish. I worked back up stream and crossed over to the hatchery side. Two steps past the blue pipes I see her laid up on the shelf by the moss edge. I made a few get the depth drifts, and just like that I'm hooked up. She dropped back in the current, made 3 to 4 head shakes, and then charged across the creek with the drag screaming. She then went under the moss that is hung up on the pilings, up around the pilings, and then straight back across the creek towards me. Here I am with 70 foot of line out, wrapped around the pilings on the far bank, and the fish six foot directly in front of me. We parted company right at that point. My tippet broke just downstream of my #6 split shot. A pretty exciting 30 seconds. It was obvious that the fish had been that route before. A good fighting fish with good color and just a tint of blue. Not huge, 4 to 4.5 pounds but in good shape. No doubt a holdover from regular season. With that said, I am now reporting the first offically "lost lunker" from the newly renamed "blue pipe hole". Another great day to be on the water, only saw 2 other anglers. Thanks for listening.

Bman Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I some how think this was only round one, ". It was obvious that the fish had been that route before" I'm eager to see your report of round two! I'm sure the two of you will dance again. The only good line is a tight line
flyfishmaster Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Laker, So you now are yet another "victim" to attest to the awesomeness and power of the fish lurking/prowling in the area called the "Blue Pipe Hole". Trust me my friends when I say this.... "Be scared, be very scared of THE BLUE PIPE and the powers for which it posses!!!" Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!

laker67 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Great report!! Wish I was there. What did the bow finally take? A tan sowbug on a size 14 2487 tmc, as well as the two browns. Pretty much tan and grey are my only colors.
laker67 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Testically it's Pete's Blue Pipe Hole. Carry on. I stand corrected Pete. I will not make that error in the future. Did you go to bsd over the weekend?
