I still think it is proper stream etiquette. To turn the darn ringer off!!!! Used too just turn my phone off to save the battery from constant searching for a signal. Guess I'll just leave it in the truck and check it a couple times a day or turn it on vibrate.

Nothing in the world aggravates me more than being forced to listen to some "citizen's" phone call in a restaurant or anywhere else for that matters. But to have some moron whip out his phone while your up to your hips in a trout stream. It's one thing if they move on by themselves but they just stand there like they are in their living room. Have you ever listened they talk so loud everyone within a 1/2 mile can hear them. Give it a break the darn thing is up against your mouth. That makes me want to ask to borrow their phone and give it a chuck down stream. Leave the darn thing in the truck!! If you are so important or there is such impending business to be taken care of then either stay home or in the trailer!!

Off soapbox!!

Right.

Any fisherman who keeps a cellphone in their pocket while they fish is not worthy of the name. I don't know about other folks, but that's half the reason I'm out there in the first place, to get away from technology and all the other crap that makes life stressful.

I guess after 45 years of fishing I'm no longer a fisherman.....Please.

Last fall I had a laptop and cell phone while camping at Quarry Park for 5 days. I closed 3 deals down there for $4,500.00's in commission. I love technology!!!

Our campsite looked like a home office. Everyone had a cell phone/ Iphone and laptop.

Checking generation scedules, doing business, Doc put out a few fires with patients, booked a rental boat, wife sent me personal photos that made me homesick, sent an email to a buddy in town letting him know what time the fish fry was, made a dinner reservation for saturday night. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!

Right.

Any fisherman who keeps a cellphone in their pocket while they fish is married. I don't know about other folks, but that's half the reason I'm out there in the first place, to get away from the wife and all the other crap that makes life stressful. But, I would like to go back again, so I have to jump through her hoops. Plus I'd like to be reached if there was any emergency with junior(ette).

or something like that.

I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.

What a maroon! :woohehe:

I work on a commission basis, bub... My livelihood can't be compressed into a 9-5.

I was standing underneath the bridge in zone 2 just this past year and answered a call cause I didn't recognize the number off hand.. (I do keep my phone on vibrate). It was Delores M, a little old lady who lives all by herself.. She had left her key in her ignition (for two weeks, lol) and ran her battery down.. She didn't know who else to call, and she had accidentally called my cell phone Instead of the business number.. She happens to live next to Bennett so I just packed up and went on over.. Turns out her late husband has a trickle charger (Danged good one too!), so I just put it on a charger and hung out with her for a while.. (actually fixed a few things around the house, but that's a different tale)

Long and short is that professional Customer Service Reps like me are ALWAYS on duty..

I have been keeping my phone in my shirt or vest pocket while fishing lately. I mostly use it for taking pictures to email or text to my fishing buddies to make them jealous. It’s smaller than my camera and there is no need to transfer pictures so I can email them.

To slightly change the subject. I read somewhere that for 80% of the population, the point and shoot digital camera they own right now will be the last one they ever purchase. Cell phone cameras are getting that good.

Personally my cell phone can’t compete with my camera and it’s 20X/40X zoom but for snap shots of fish, the stream, campfire, etc. it’s fine.

I don’t mind seeing or hearing people on the cell phone as long as they are not yelling into it and have the ringer off. Proper cell phone etiquette goes a long way.

Having said that, nothing rubs me the wrong way more than a person at the “U-Scan” checkout scanning super slowly because they are on the phone. Man that irks me!!!

I agree with follow up posts... as long as your not loud and/or spooking fish, I don't care.

3g service (via AT&T) has finally come to Lebanon and the BSSP area!!! Wahooo!!

Bout friggin time, I say... They've been promising it since late 2010 and cell reception here has been shotty at best in the meantime...

Just thought you all should know...

Hey Cricket I just switch to my onstar when I am down there and I am fine. No one has that number except by my choice. No answering machine either.
