Chief Grey Bear Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I guess nobody noticed the part about most places I go do not have cell phone reception, so it would be dead weight. But a few hundred rounds is not????? Someone talking loudly on there phone is no worse than the two fisherman trying to hold a conversation while one is 50 feet upstream from the other. Actually, I think the angler on the phone would only be half as bad unless they have the call on speaker phone. Finally! I have been waiting on someone to point this out. Good job! That sort of reminds me of the two gentleman on the Catch and Release section at Montauk last year who were loudly discussing the pros and cons of the Health Care bill while I was trying to concentrate on enticing a 3 pound rainbow to take my scud imitation. (I'm scared to even mention the health care bill on here, but I think it goes without saying that I am not trying to start a political thing... )
jjtroutbum Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Talking is not the problem for me. Its the darn ringtones. They just take away from the experience of what I am trying to accomplish in the water. I dislike the mental interprution in my time spent in what for me equals in many ways being at church. I would feel the same loss if I was crossing a Milo patch to a dog on point, listening to sermon, or watching a movie. And I had to hear an old timey phone ring, the nokia song, baby got back , Ac/Dc, Lady Gaga ect.. Sounds like the trout park just ain't your bag, buddy... Better stick with Crane creek and the like, cause standing elbow to elbow with the other pipe smoking fly flippers at the outlet, you are definitely goig to have your Zen ruined.. But you know that.. cricket.c21.com

And I had to hear an old timey phone ring, the nokia song, baby got back , Ac/Dc, Lady Gaga ect.. That pretty much sums up how I feel about it as well. What happened to folks just wanting to quietly take in their surroundings? The greatest thing about fishing is that it's one of the few times where I get to concentrate on one thing, and one thing only for a period of time-with not much else to interrupt that. It's a time to get away from all the stresses of daily life. Cell phones just don't belong anywhere in that equation, unless you have to be on call for some absolutely crucial reason. Folks just don't seem to have too much respect for their natural surroundings these days... Taking boom boxes on float trips, having obnoxious ring times go off along the stream etc. If nothing else, those sorts of things scare away the wildlife for those who may actually be interested in such things. Just chill out and enjoy where you're at. You'll get back to the real world soon enough- you might as well get away from it for a few hours while you fish.
taxidermist Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I fish to get away from the crap. Nice peaceful then ring a ding a ling. someones phone!!!
flytyer57 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I fish to get away from the crap. Nice peaceful then ring a ding a ling. someones phone!!! Really? If you fish to get away from the crap, but you're close enough to hear someones phone, you are still in the crap. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
techo Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 My phone has everything. If I could figure it out.....it probably microwaves a shore lunch for you! It has almost as good of a camera as my cheaper digitals, has the GPS with way points, has the recent photos I have taken of some fishing spots with the lake down, has music (don't use it for that much), it even makes phone calls. It does a ton of stuff that I have no clue about. I also use mine for business a lot. I leave mine on vibrate too. No use messing up the calm and quiet of others while out in the paradise God made for us. Pretty amazing where the technology has taken us. I remember when people thought fishing with them thar fishfinders was cheating. Tim Carpenter
Outside Bend Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 My phone's really good at dropping calls. And sometimes it won't let you dial out, even if you have four bars. I can take bad pictures with it, but I can't send them anywhere. Nor can I view photos someone else sends me. It sucks juice like an eastside streetwalker. It has apparently decided to block calls from my mother, which isn't altogether bad I hate my phone, and I keep it as far away as possible as often as possible. <{{{><
