DChance Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 wonder if the rain coming today will dirty it up a bit....
MOPanfisher Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Ditches and creeks are running pretty good and muddy so it will certainly color up the upper arms, how far down it goes will depend on how much rain. Also with essentially no releases I don't think it will draw the muddy water as far down the lake as it usually does, of course the flip side is that the lake is gonna come up and climb steadily.
Trav Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 wonder if the rain coming today will dirty it up a bit.... Muddy water absorbs heat better. A little color with some sunshine will have those deeper fish moving up. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
MOPanfisher Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 No question about it now, 841.24 as of a few minutes ago and climbing. We can survive one rain event, maybe two, but if we get a really heavy runoff or a third rain event its gonna be looking bad for the lake level and the construction work below the dam. Sure could use about 3-4 weeks of good dry weather with warm temps.

Cold and muddy water are not a good combination for fishing. I am sure the dam area will stay somewhat clear, but that sure shrinks the lake.

MOPanfisher Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Work is going fairly well, considering the run of bad weather when the contractor couldn't work. Currently the lake is 841.59 and rising. A lot will depend on the weather in the next few days, another heavy rain could raise the lake to the point where it is decided to pull the contractor out and begin releasing water, I truly wish I knew. If they are able to keep working and weather cooperates completion of the stilling basin should be sometime in april.
Trav Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 I am not concerned about how long it takes them to do the dam work. I prefer to see the lake high and out of its banks during and after the spawn. Increases the survival ratio of new fry. After all...a good spawn in high water means more fish in the future. Members jamesedward Posted February 27, 2011 Members Posted February 27, 2011 The dam is shut down until mid MAY and will be used only if the lake hits 655. This will make a great spawn and keep the river and upper Lindley muddy for awhile and like always the spinner bait will be the key bait....When the dam hits 45 degree it is ALMOST ALWAYS in the upper 50's to low 60's in the areas i touched on if you go up far enough. Problem is not everyone can run it to where a few of us can. If you think you can't go any further, try harder cause you most likely can if ya try. You don't really need to go past the river sign up the pomm cause 30 yards from that sign is HEAVEN on that little bluff on the left side before you get to that riffle.....yea, a few of you know right where I am talking about. The lindley side, go about 2 miles above the zig zag there by Pittsburg and you will hit a stump field that always holds BIG fish. You just have to have brass to go up that far and yes you can do it in a big boat. I have a 225 and I make it and it is worth it. Good luck and be careful. Oh and the stump field is NOT ON ANY MAP so be careful.....Go about 1 mile past what your map will.
