On The Fly 6 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 So, I've made my reservations at a resort on the White for the 25th-26th of March. During that time, I've learned, there will be a fishing tournament and most likely water to high to wade in! If this is true, is there anywhere that could provide wading access? If the white is running, will the Norfork be as well? Any information would be helpful! I really don't want to have to cancel my reservations because I can't get to the fish! :-/ "The difference between fly fishers and worm dunkers is the quality of their excuses." -Anonymous "I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering trout." -by Paul O'Neil

Depends on lake level, and weather. There is always some wade fishing. Often they may not turn on until up in the day then you can fish near the dam, the jump in the car and go to wildcat, rim shoals or Buffalo City and fish the rest of the day. Not sure where you are staying but the water taxi at Rim Shoals is a great option, they can ferry you to the islands or Jenkins Creek for about $5 can save a trip. Unless really big water there is always some wade fishing there. I figured they generated on a need to basis, but I'd heard that with the tournament going on, the chances of them generating was greater. Oh, and I'll be staying at His Place Resort. For the most part, the Corps is forgiving in times of fishing events. they may just have the generators off if there's a tournament and someone confronted them with the issue of safety to wading anglers during the event. Not sure about other times, but from what I heard, last year they were pretty open considering the the Sow Bug Roundup weekend keeping the generators off. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
John Berry Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 There is a trout tournament on the upper White (State Park down to Rim). The sponsors have requested generation for the 26th. The Norfork should be down. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
On The Fly 6 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 If they generate, rent a boat. SIO3 I've considered that, but that's more money :-/ "The difference between fly fishers and worm dunkers is the quality of their excuses." -Anonymous "I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering trout." -by Paul O'Neil

taxidermist Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 http://recovery.doi.gov/press/bureaus/us-fish-and-wildlife-service/greers-ferry-national-fish-hatchery/ Ok look at it like this there are 8 generators at Bull SHoals. with all 8 on no wading but up to four yep plenty of places to fish. Since we have had little rain and the lake is down to the bottom of power pool or close they may not run water.

May fish Norfork if they do run the water. How many can be running and you are still able to wade?
