Andrew324 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Slipped out to Crane today. Fished a few hours catching good little fighters, trying and experimenting with flies and weight, got most on nymphs and a few leeches. Put on a beadhead nymph with some moss green dubbing I stripped from iridescent chenille and mixed with hare hair, really good looking thing. Caught my personal best, maybe 17". Is it a male or female? I battled it for a bit, and my heart was pounding. After releasing it I sat on the side of the creek laughing to myself. eric1978 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 A gorgeous female. What a beautiful fish! You should be really proud of that one. Can't believe the fish that are coming out of Crane last few weeks...guess I was worrying for nothing.

Trout Commander Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Very nice, sir! Let's see that trout crack you created?! I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

et84 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Great phish, man. Crane is really puttin' 'em out!! "Sometimes it seems like such a hard life, but there's good times around the bend. The rollercoaster's gotta roll to the bottom if ya wanna climb to the top again."
exiledguide Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I stopped by Crane yesterday after lunch and drove down to the park to check on the water level in the creek and drove up to Upper Wire Road parking ang saw no cars. Made the mistake of telling telling my bride, so today we had to go back so she could take pictures. So we went to park, flea market stores, lunch in Crane then stopped at upper wire parking and finally saw a car from Iowa. I'm not into trout fishing because all of my trout fishing in the past has been for stocked trout. My question is why have I seen only one car in two days. I certainly would not be at a trout park in the crowds when a just about empty Crane creek is available. We most certainly will be there fishing next week.
