Al Agnew Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 The lower half of Bismarck Lake stays pretty open, with a couple of big patches of pads. The upper lake, above the boat ramp, gets pretty choked with pads and other aquatic plants. But if you want to sight fish for carp, there are a pile of them in Bismarck Lake, and after the weather has been stable for a while, the upper lake gets prettty clear. You have to ease your way through the vegetation, but you should be able to see a lot of carp.
Haris122 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I had went to Catawissa a few months back, without any success whatsoever. I thought the place was entirely fished out. Maybe it wasn't, or maybe the recent Meramec flooding was high enough to connect it again with the Meramec.
Members Fish Ogre Posted May 25, 2013 Members Posted May 25, 2013 I fished Port Hudson lake from a kayak today. The water was quite murky today, but every other time that I have been there it was clearer. While I have used my float tube there, I would not recommend it. There are so many submerged logs and trees it is sometimes hard to find room to kick. There is also a lot of aquatic vegetation that it unpleasant to kick through. When you unexpectedly brush your bare leg against an underwater log or a patch of vegetation, it is sometimes hard to not scream like a girl. "Joy to the fishes..."
