Stoneroller Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 i guess Libya should start making baits so people won't forget that they are begging for our help while be slaughtered by a maniac. Larry Richards Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 I just used Megabass baits as and example of how the terrible disaster in Japan will impact the fishing industry as a whole. It could take years to rebuild the sea ports in order to export products to the World again.Another example would be the parts for Yamaha motors or repair parts for your reels and so on.Yes,the tackle industry is just a small part of the impact of the disaster but this is a fishing forum so I only pointed out how it would effect fisherman.
Smalliebigs Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid. There's a fine line between me standing on the side of a river drinking beer and me fishing.....I always look stupid
Larry Richards Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Larry, I'm going to try to be nice....but it's not easy. C'mon....you need to get serious. What positive impact is a bunch of fisherman from America buying a few lures going to do for Japan? This may turn out to be the worst natural disaster in the 21st century, and we are talking about buying some stupid bass lures to try to help them? Suggestion....Pick a good organization that has members who have dedicated their lives to helping in times like these, and send them just 10% of what you spent on fishing last year. That would be some realistic help. You need to invest in a fly rod and reel, and get out there for some real fishing. It's so much more fun landing a 5 lb. trout using a 2 lb test tippet, than it is to hook a 5 pound bass and wolf him in with 20 lb. test line. And while you are at it....take a son or daughter, or a grandkid with you. A boatload of fish is not even close to the value of one child's thrill when he catches a fish. Chambug Dude, you are way to into yourself to presume that you know me.As for the kids,I will be going down to Long Lake Resort in OK. June 3rd for our annual Hooked on Fishin TV Kids Tournament where we pair 50 kids with 50 boat owners in 2 age groups for a half day of fishing. Each kid gets a rod and reel,a tackle bag of baits and a trophy.Checks are give to the top 3 places in each age group and after the weigh-in there is a BBQ all at no cost to the kids.We can always use volunteers chumbug..
Members The Tactician Posted March 16, 2011 Members Posted March 16, 2011 Wow! This got blown way out of proportion. Sounds like everyone in this topic needs some nice weather so they can head out and fish. Jeez! I am wondering how this turned into fly fishing is more conventional than other types. There were a bunch of guys talking about snagging spoonbill on here, I don't necessarily agree with it, but to each their own. Me being snarky isn't going to change anyone's mind. C'mon guys!
Cajunangler Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 If anyone thinks the comments Larry made are out of line you must already be outside the doors of KY3 here in Springfierld marching. They announced last night at 10pm that quite a few products that are made in Japan are probably going to experience shortages and that prices for these prodcuts will probably go up in the short term. They also added that simply putting off purchasing items that are not completely necessary would allow time for the supply chains to reopen and let prices return to previous levels. C'mon, if you've got any problem with Larry's comments surely you can't like what they said. And more importantly, don't shoot the messenger!!! This is supposed to be a forum about FISHING and fishing related topics and Larry was spot on, nothing more involved than that.
woodman Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Go back in time 45 yrs.to 1965 and probably would have been made in the US. http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
flytyer57 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Go back in time 45 yrs.to 1965 and probably would have been made in the US. Imagine that. You mean to tell me the unemployment rate is so high because we keep buying foreign junk? Whodathunkit? There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
woodman Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Yea and we are adicted to it.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Guest Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 This is a very insightful article. It's written about how the disaster affected Japanese Lure makers and its loyal bass fishermen. http://blog.wired2fish.com/blog/bid/51599/Fishing-Feature-Japan-Anglers-and-Tackle-Makers-Moving-Forward
