Went out tonight in the skittle size hail after work and found a nice mess for supper. My third spot produced a nice gray today, hopefully more to come later. Going out in the morning, cancelled Duck Creek again, strong front and high winds again tomorrow. Does not bother mushroom hunting, just have to watch for widow makers.

Think I've had my fill...been to busy to mess with more than a pan full now & then...the darn things have been accumulating!. Major yard work and we cleaned out the fridge this afternoon... Morels for lunch... Tossed all I had...4-5lbs in a big skillet with a stick of butter, and some S&P...Yum!

Saved the remaining "morel" flavored butter and did up some quarterd fresh brussel sprouts this evening..it rocked along side our lamb chops & taters this evening.

I never went hunting before but was fishing this afternoon and talked to a couple that had some luck picking some mushrooms. I decided to take a break from fishing and look around. I found almost 20 in around 30 minutes. Sounds like fried is the way to go. Any condiment or just a little S&P? post-12145-13030957146709_thumb.jpg

Once you've had them fried, try this:

Saute a skilletful of morels in butter (add a shot of red wine, if you want), just like you would saute button mushrooms from the store. Then PILE them on top of a thick, medium-rare ribeye or your favorite steak. Man, they are good.

Ate my first morrel mushroom, skillet fried.

Dam it was good.

Now I know why people make a big deal

I do mine pretty simply: saute in butter a little s&p. Toss in a little more butter at the end -- just to melt. Serve over toast. The mushrooms are the star of the show.

Is it to late in the year to find them now? I used to hunt them when I was a kid so now I have to learn all over.

That's it, your "Die Hard Anglers" membership is officially on probation...

Picked some on my way to Monauk this weekend and some folks out picking at Montauk this weekend, so there should be some around Overland Park. Go look, you have nothing to lose. Cheers.
