Members buffaloman Posted May 15, 2011 Members Posted May 15, 2011 The fly rod is bamboo, 8'6" long Decal label Montague then fish emblem, below that Flash. On the rod above that towards the top the phrase Genuine Tomkin. Does anyone out tyhere have any idea what I have, it is in excelent shape, and I would like to put a price to it. Thank You Buffaloman (Frank)
Zach Bearden Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 If you can give us some pictures of the writing and such that would help a bit. "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Danoinark Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Montagues were made in Montague City, Massachusetts back in the 40's and 50's. They were a mass produced bamboo rod. I have one myself in 9ft. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
ness Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Like Dano said, they were a mass-produced rod. Kinda the working-mans fly rod. They're good quality as a general rule, but not a real high dollar find, if that's what you were hoping for. Good condition is a help -- look to see that the varnish, wraps, decals, guides, and reel seat are all good -- but not modern as in a refinish. You didn't mention a rod tube -- that would help. I'd guess up to $200, but go search the web (ebay, etc.) and see what you see. John

Members buffaloman Posted May 16, 2011 Author Members Posted May 16, 2011 Gentleman, Thanks for the info. I will can take pictrures of the rod, but might have a time posting them. The tube that the rod is in is cardboard, but the rod has two tips with it, and I will keep this one. Thanks to all that responded, as always you can count on Ozark Anglers for help. Buffaloman
Gavin Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Monty's arent worth allot...and the Flash is a pretty run of the mill model...Might fetch $175-200 if its in mint original condition, all full length sections, mint sock, & tube...Maybe $100 if it has issues or its been refinished...at least you have the 8.5' model..should work well with a 5 or 6wt...Fish the heck out of it and enjoy it.
