Smalliebigs Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Does anyone on this forum have any experience on the Gasconade above the town of Competition???? I know everything I have read says that it is an area that should only be floated in high water conditions or in the spring.I don't believe everything I read thats for sure. I looked at a farm down there on the river and the river looked pretty friggin sweet where this farm is but, I do know Beaver Creek flows in about 1000 yards downstream from this property and I was wondering if that made the river look that much better there or not. The property itself is priced so good and has everything I could ever dream of including a 6 acre pond right out your back door stocked with some sort of half Illinois/Florida Largemouth, you could see really nice bass everywhere in the shallows hammering Bluegill and spawning it was something to behold. I'm just rying to make sure the river is nothing but a small creek down there......I guess I'm just going to have to try to float it....very soon and see for myself. I might be paying Wright County taxes soon any and all opinions on this area of the Gasconade are greatly appreciated as this may be the most important purchase of my life
Smalliebigs Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 If I were you I would buy it, but then you are going to have to give me permission to access the river through your property! Dude, anyone from this forum if they ask or talk to me is more than welcome....if I get this place I might have to have an OAF float-a-thon and pig roast.....there's three houses on this property. I'm just very paranoid of what the river is like down there. I have heard some good things from guys on here who I have great respect for their river knowledge, so I'm feeling better about it.
Mitch f Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Man, that is one cool place!! I wonder if you can run a jet boat up that far? I've never fished more than a mile above Hazelgreen. Let me know what you find out. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
FishinCricket Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Man, that is one cool place!! I wonder if you can run a jet boat up that far? You can but the locals (and the ecosystem) prefer that you didn't.. lol cricket.c21.com

Don't you worry Mr. Cricket, I was only kidding about bringing a jet up that far. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Al Agnew Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I've floated through there, but it was quite a while back. As I remember, the river is floatable most of the year if you don't mind scraping down many of the riffles and occasionally walking them. Like much of the Gasconade above Hazelgreen, seems like a lot of the riffles split around islands, making them more difficult to float. Water usually has some color, not real clear, and not a lot of big gravel bars. I remember catching about as many largemouth as smallmouth, but it should be good for smallies. It's also one of the few stretches of Ozark stream where I ran into several cottonmouths. Pretty cool stream, and pretty much only floated by locals.
ColdWaterFshr Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 That is one sweet place, SB. I would jump on it. You gotta pool out there? Pool or the pond. Pool would be nice.

Besides, I heard their moving them city slickers in up there.. Got em convinced it's an Ozark paradise! But yeah, the jet boats (and their gigging poles) can definitely make it up that far... cricket.c21.com

Don't worry Cricket the nade is a good place to fish but, it will also be a starting place for me to hit every other river in the region.Osage Fork,Big Piney,Beaver Creek every river that flows under Hwy 60 and 160, the Niangua,Prater Shoal all will be at my disposal well with in reach at a much closer drive than where I'm at now. Please by all means keep away from the nade if you think it sucks. Country boy
