Bill Anderson Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I don't care how "noble" the cause is, flyfishing tournaments are a cancerous blight on the sport and on the limited cold water resource.Find a lake that can take the crowds and the pressure, I have a friend, a Jewish carpenter, whom you should get to know. If you do, your life will never be the same.
awhuber Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 By the way, is this for sure legal? Ask these folks. (573) 323-4236 Ozark National Scenic Riverways P.O. Box 490 Van Buren, MO 63965
Smalliebigs Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I don't care how "noble" the cause is, flyfishing tournaments are a cancerous blight on the sport and on the limited cold water resource.Find a lake that can take the crowds and the pressure, This sort of attitude and mentality is what pushes me away from fishing for Trout. The gall some of you have about your Brad Pitt induced coma sitting in a river runs thru it with your Orvis Fishpond garb from head to toe. I laugh everytime I float the upper Current and Slay 20 inch plus Browns on my spinning reel to the chagrin of the stuck up turdbags in the water up to their chest fling an egg pattern with an indicator. Little do these Brad Pitt want to be's know I will be flinging the kitchen sink at them down stream like a real man....huge streamers. This guy is going out of his way to help a good cause and your hedonistic butt can only think of yourself.....very weak but, typical of a lot of flyfishing freaks I have met. We all have to deal with certain circumstances on the river when fishing some are able to deal with them and some just whine and don't catch anything.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 3, 2011 Root Admin Posted June 3, 2011 I don't like the harsh tone here. All of us know people who have cancer. For most of us, it's someone closely related, could even be one of us. If I called for a day for all the OAF'er to congregate on the Current on June 26th for a day floating and fishing, no tournament, would you guys say the same thing?
stlfisher Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I don't like the harsh tone here. All of us know people who have cancer. For most of us, it's someone closely related, could even be one of us. If I called for a day for all the OAF'er to congregate on the Current on June 26th for a day floating and fishing, no tournament, would you guys say the same thing? Depends. People fish much harder in a tournament than a relaxing float with buddies. I mostly fish alone or with one other buddy. If I wasn't floating I would probably just fish another weekend. We did pick the weekend of September 17th because it was event free. In that respect we are dissapointed and rightfully so...doesn't make us bad people. A tournament on the Current is a different beast than a relaxing float with friends. the river is small in the upper stretch. I am happy to donate toward a good cause...just let me now how I can for this event.
Idylwilde Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Hey guy's I am sorry to have stirred up a little turmoil here. Please let me try to explain something about this event. I saw something about an event some of you had mentioned The Trout Bust. With 105 folks coming down the the Current River to enjoy the river and do some fishing. Well this is no different than that in reality. The only difference is you give a $25.00 fee (Tax deductible) to a charity. All the valued prizes will be given away at the end of the event by drawing. No matter if you pay the fee and spend the day under the AC and never wet a hook or draw a pardner and fish all day and catch 100 trout. I understand the reasoning behind the TOURNAMENT IDEA and that is why we did the way we did in making it an event that folks could meet new friends and learn from them, and enjoy just being in the outdoors. The only people that will profit from this event is folks that are loosing the ability to breath and turn to the the American Lung Association for help. The Trout Park holds the Rose Holland event every year for the Heart Association and they drew over $8000.00 last year, and over 1000 anglers competing for lunker & tagged trout for prizes. I though we could start an event for this organization that could grow into something that would help out. I do not even dream of having close to that amount of money or people here. Heck I would be great full to get 1/2 as many folks as the trout bust for the event's first year. I hope this sheads a different light on the event and let you see it's not going to be 500 folks swinging 9' rods up and down the river, and running off everyone except the event people. The only thing that the person who catches the most fish will get over all the others is the enjoyment of catching the fish & if he would agree I would like to have a photo for the web page and if he uses his own pattern to catch the fish with his permission post the recipe and photo of the fly here and on FaceBook as the hot fly for the current river. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
Gavin Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I'm not worried about a tourney...That creek see's a ton of pressure...and it almost always fishes well (provided that we have some water in the creek). Crowded fishing...just mean that you didnt expend enough boot leather, got there late, or forgot the boat...Cheers.
Kayser Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Isn't the 17th the Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association derby at Montauk? If so, then camp site availability might be a little hindered. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Idylwilde Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 My understanding that the Trout Fisherman event is the weekend of September 10th-11th. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
