eric1978 Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 At least you know they won't be keeping any fish since they won't be catching any fish, right oneshot? I'd rather see party floaters than meat hunters on my favorite river. No offense.

I don't care if its fishing or Floating this is just wrong place for another Outfitter. Some do go to the access just for some solitude from the Park. Oh its my Favorite River too I was Baptized there and my Ashes will be put there when I die. oneshot
HighPlainsFlyFisher Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Being the closest coldwater river to my home here in KC I spend my share of time on the Niangua and do enjoy the river. That being said it's definitely becoming one of the most abused streams I've ever seen in the summer months so another outfitter and campground is just what it needs! A friend of mine was on a float with his GF this last weekend and got into it with some fellows over rude comments made towards her. They ended up beating him pretty good right on the river and he's still in the hospital as we speak. I'm not a violent person but that makes me wanna carry while I float , alot of individuals on the river just seem to be lowlifes anymore and I got no patience for that kind of people. Jeff
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 The subtle abuse that tends to go unnoticed by the younger set is the amount of gravel these things put into the holes. It's really noticeable to me in Bennett and the area above Bennett on the river. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Greasy B Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Hey Oneshot, it’s cool that your life is so influenced by a river that it bookmarks the beginning and the end. Being a relative new comer to Niangua I was amazed at the contrast between the hideous congloberation of campgrounds and kitsch on 64 hwy and the peaceful river downstream. I had to ask myself is it because of good zoning laws or responsible land stewardship, no, I guess it’s just because no one has gotten around to developing it. I’ll bet that after couple of years of heavy use the gently sloping vegetated bank will be replaced with a muddy cut bank. All the trees on that side are bound to erode and fall into the water. Over the last few years I’ve nicknamed the stretch from the spring confluence to the boat ramp the Miracle Mile because if you can’t catch a fish there you’ll need more than miracle. I hate to see it spoiled. As far as the knuckle dragging morons who open their stupid mouths then pound the daylights out of fellow river travelers, I’ve ran into my share of those types. The only hope is for local law enforcement to step up and thoroughly investigate these instances, then prosecutors/judges stepping up to thrown the book at them. I’m all for carrying but the chance that it would do more good than harm is slim. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
oneshot Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 I'm thinking alot of the trouble with Floaters now days on the river is a Party Cove Mentality of Lake of the Ozarks overflowing to the river. Its Bad when your trying to fish and some doped up Girl is tyring to get you to Party with her or have one Flash you as she goes by. oneshot
eric1978 Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Bad when your trying to fish and some doped up Girl is tyring to get you to Party with her or have one Flash you as she goes by. That doesn't sound that bad. LOL Yeah, I don't like sharing rivers, either. But the partiers pay taxes, too. It's as much theirs as it is ours, they just have different interests. There are plenty of stretches of river void of morons...you just have to work a little harder to fish them. It's worth it.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 I had to ask myself is it because of good zoning laws or responsible land stewardship, no, I guess it’s just because no one has gotten around to developing it Actually it's more a case of running out of surface area for the most part. The river is so full on weekends that the only options are drinking and swimming in a free pool without much in the way of enforcement. It's true they catch a few with glass or a cooler of beer and no empties, but for the most part it's became a party river decades ago. The DNR could have stepped in a done more to protect it, but they decided profiting from it and competing was better. The only reason the floats don't continue north is because the shuttles are a ridiculously long. They don't work with the bottom line. Much of the river is a ghost of decades ago with not near the depth it had before civilization fell in love with it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
