GloryDaze Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Leaving Hemmingways today at BPS I saw a young fella in a wheel chair get into truck cab and load his chair into the bed of his pick up with a with an electrical arm that first lifted the bed cover and then lifted the chair into the bed of the truck. I ask him who did the work modifying his truck and he told me United Access in Springfield. They also have offices in St Louis and ,I believe in Columbia K.C. Toll free number 877 503 9399. He said he was quite pleased with the work they had done. Hope this helps. If you decide to go with United Access, I must tell you they are top notch professional. I deal with them quite often with my job and couldn't ask for a better group of individuals. Last year they customized a friend of mine's van who only has movement in his hands. He now has the capability to drive by himself with a lift and hand controls for the van. Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory

Members zthomas Posted July 15, 2011 Members Posted July 15, 2011 I just ran a story in the magazine I edit about a guy over in Oklahoma who is paralyzed from the chest down and remains an avid (and very good) fisherman and hunter. He runs a big, open Blue Wave or similar boat and has a power lift to get up into it in the parking lot. Here's a link to the magazine (story starts on p. 24): http://issuu.com/ua_fort_smith/docs/bell_tower_spring_11 I'll also email him and let him know of this discussion. He might be able to offer a lot of good advice.

He is just 20 years old and I know he is going to have some tough times ahead of him, but hopefully with the help of family and friends he can have a productive life. I really appreciate your comments and everyone else in this forum. It really means alot. If you can get anymore information for me it would be great.

If you are fishing COE lakes like Table Rock the Public marinas should have access for wheelchair boat access because it's contract is with the COE. Because it's on a COE lake it's not covered by ADA but covered by The United States Access Board. There number is 800 872 2253. She is going to look for more info and said she would e mail it to me next week if you want to send me your e mail ,I will be happy to send it to you.
