moguy1973 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I was planning on floating the Huzzah on Monday from 8 down to the low water bridge and was wondering if anyone knows the conditions down that way with all this dry weather we've had. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
TroutRinger Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Not sure what section that is, but I can assure you it will be extremely crowded. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
eric1978 Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Not sure what section that is, but I can assure you it will be extremely crowded. Nah, should be at least fishable on a Monday. Tuesday thru Thursday would be better.
TroutRinger Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Nah, should be at least fishable on a Monday. Tuesday thru Thursday would be better. Didn't see the Monday part . I floated on a Saturday with a big group it was an absolute zoo. I still brought my rod and caught several small smallies. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." Gavin Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 74cfs on the Hwy 8 guage....really low & clear at that level....pack light...make long casts....
moguy1973 Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Nice, thanks! -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Al Agnew Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 It can definitely be crowded on Mondays. I floated that stretch on a Monday a couple weeks ago--mainly just floating with the nieces and nephew and not fishing seriously--and it was pretty ridiculous. It might help if you can get a very early start. We put in about 11 AM and we were right in amongst the crowd all day.
moguy1973 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 What about the 6 miles above Hwy 8? I know it's a lot more narrow up that way but is it a decent float with the lower water? I've only floated from 8 to Scotia before... I've heard the upper section isn't as heavily floated by recreation floaters and can be better fishing without being disturbed by a bunch of rafts... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
cwc87 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 The upper six defintely has fewer people on it and when it gets low no rafts are on that stretch. The lower six has the best water and more numbers of people. If you want to start before 8a.m. give huzzah valley a call and they will lay a canoe out for you if you prepay and tell them what time you want to be picked up at scotia. This pertains to the Hv downstream to Scotia stretch you have to put yourself in because they don't open til 8a.m. If you own your own boat they can make arrangements to have your vehicle shuttle to the take out or just set up a time so they can meet u. moguy1973 Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 Ended up being a pretty good day, even with the heat. Floated the upper 6 and caught 5 total, 4 being between 8-12" long and one right by HV campground that was about 18-19" long and about 2.5lbs or so(my freakin scale got wet and wouldn't work so I couldn't weigh it)...I think the first smaller one I caught is actually a Neosho smallmouth? The lower lip extended a good amount beyond the upper... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
