When you guys are targeting the big browns in OCT are you guys using 8wt rods with full sink or sink tip? when you guys catch these bigger fish what size tippiet are you using? Thanks for the info.

Good question! I was going to ask the same thing. Anyone out there with some info? Thanks

every one has a different method....

I like my 7wt.. floating line,

6lbs Maxima (on bright nights), and 8lbs the rest of the time (straight line.. no taper)

I dont use any type of sinking line... I tye some flies that if the water is high.. they are heavy enough to get down

No tippet? I know it varies by situation but do you generally have the Maxima around the length of the rod.

Yes... I use about he length of the rod as length of leader

Very true! I always make sure I have about 1 foot of floating line beyond the tip when the tippet end is reaching to the reel.

so the maxium 6ib and 8 ib I take it is for night fishing. what if you want to fish during the day what would u use?

When you asked the original question, you used the word "target". By this I am guessing you are refering to sight fishing. Daytime is a whole different ball game that requires different approaches. Little things like the color of your clothes, where you stand in relationship to the sun and the fish, even your arm movements when you cast. T=como browns are no push over, they are wary and always on guard. Blend in, keep your movements to a minimum, and don't cast your shadow over the fish you are after. As far as the tippet, 7x to 6x will hook you up to a lot more fish. I prefer clear in color and flouracarbon. We could get into presentation but I won't. Just remember not to crowd or pressure the fish. Hope you do well and we expect a report.

thanks alot for your input. Guess i really have some work to do before I am able to catch me a big trout. Where is the best place to learn all of this? I take this that they will be running so water more then likely so using a boat is the best bet? so your saying fishing in day light 5 or 6x tippiet will catch u big 8 or 10 ib brown just fine?
