Members cyclonebass Posted October 14, 2011 Members Posted October 14, 2011 I need some help finding a good prop repair man. While loading my boat on tablerock a couple of weeks back, I hit a rock and slightly bent 2 blades of my stainless steel prop and have nicks and scratches on all three blades. I live in Iowa and local boat shop stated most props cost $160 if they don't need welding. I thought this was ridiculous and now plan on bringing my prop down with me to tablerock at the end of October to see if I can save a little money. Any suggestions on where to take it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I was wondering what kind of hours the shops are open because I want to do some fishing while down there. I need to know when to pull off the water so that I can get my prop to them. Thanks again.

I'm sure someone on here will chime in with a recommendation for a good prop repair shop, and approximate cost. But, I would offer this advice. 1. Don't run the boat until you get the prop repaired. Even at lower RPM's, you can really mess up your biggest investment; your motor. 2. Don't expect that someone can do it while you wait. A repair like that can take days or weeks if the guy is backed up. Of course, emergency repair can be done, but you'll undoubtedly pay more. Just my 2 cents!
Members cyclonebass Posted October 15, 2011 Author Members Posted October 15, 2011 Using my buddies boat when I come down in October. I plan on removing the prop and just dropping it off until it is done. I come down to tablerock a bunch in late fall, winter and early spring because the only fishing happening here is ice fishing. Thanks for the advice.
rps Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 SS props are less likely to damage when they strike something, but once they do, the repair cost and time are larger. If you do not need SS for performance issues, think on buying two aluminum. One to run and one for a spare while the first one is repaired, The pair usually cost less than the SS and the repair cost is much lower. In addition, you never run the risk the SS prop will fail to give before the shaft pretzels. Just a thought.

motoman Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I didn't have a prop issue; but an engine issue and Dyna Prop saved me. I was down at the Rock for a few days of fishing, get the boat in the water; minutes into the trip; I'm out of commission. - Trailer the boat to Dyna Prop; 30 minutes later, they tell me they can have the part later in the day and replace it for $300+ dollars; or they can do a temporary fix for $40; and showed me the issue; and I could fix it when I got home. Nothing detrimental. Always doing my own work; it was something I could've tackled in a weekend at home; so I gave them a $50 and thanked them for their honesty, and time! ;-)
