Saw him writing four young lads tickets on Saturday. I do not know why, but did not see tags on them. They were in Zone 3 with rod in hand. They did not look happy.

My son is a county deputy and he catches poachers all of the time.

A buddy of mine in school used to be a Conservation agent and he would tell stories of the poachers. He once had a State Highway Patrol Sergeant try to use his badge to excuse his lack of a fishing license. My buddy, honest to a fault, wasn't having it and advised him to put his badge away and leave before he had to write the citation. Just goes to show it's a dirty world.

Twice in the last 2 years I have stopped and talked to law enforcement in unmarked vehicles in the parking lots along the stream (don't know if they were Conservation Officers or Park Rangers) and they were checking every single fisherman's daily tags via binoculars and comparing them to the "list" of legal tag numbers sold that day. Both officers stated that they often catch folks fishing on prior day's tags, and sometimes actually see people culling stringers or keeping more than the legal amount. Then they just watch for the individual to walk out of the stream and write them up. This year I also observed a Conservation Officer wearing waders and a vest with a flyrod as he ticketed a poacher fishing with bait in Zone-1. So believe it - they are definitely out there! I wish them all the luck and help they can get to catch wildlife thieves!

I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."

Impossible! Highly improbably! Most undoubtedly unlikely!!

(everyone knows that fishermen are way too level headed to use drugs!)

I know what yer saying there's this dude who's always in my canoe who smokes weed all day long.....the dude is mellow and catches a ton of fishhave-a-nice-day.png

One of these officers is my brother, they love to bust people on the river.....not in the park. He is one of the reasons I stay away from the Niangua.

Nope....he wouldn't get on a forum about fishing. Let me say, I don't fish the Niangua when they are out there busting people. I know when water patrol is out there and when they aren't. I don't need my bro and his buddies searching my canoe and it's contents.....don't worry wrench I still hit the Niangua and the park in the winter for smallies

I didn't think WP headed the busts.... I thought it was the county.

Does bro know that there is illegal gigging and unregistered boats on the river sometimes too ?

Don't want them worrying about the browns and the smallies getting gigged when they can chase a native weed that is already everywhere.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
