exiledguide Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Thanks guys! I know these lures are sometimes more for the fisherman than the fish, but what else are you going to do in the cold winter months besides fishing? (oh, that's right....I have a 2 year old) Anyway, my thought is that in ultra clear water a little extra realism may make a difference. The crayfish used was a live crayfish taken from a chinese market then boiled, dried, skewered with a stick, and sprayed it with a coating. The reason for the coating was because of the transparency of the crawfish; without the spray, the laser just went right thru the shell. We used a powerful modeling software to produce the final model, then scaled it to what I was told was the correct size for the perfect crawfish (thanks Al). We Then placed a virtual box around the model and then subtraced the model leaving the cavity for the mold. The toughest part was to create the complex parting planes for the mold. I learned quite a bit form this process and now I feel confident about making more molds. Now comes the learning curve of pouring of the plastic and making the colors the way I want. Are you going to market these or is this a hobby only?
