mic Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Maybe some of the regulars like Lilley and Chief can answer the following: Everything I have read in the last two years says that the best overall nymphs across the country are pheasant tails and hare's ears. However, you never seem to see them on the list of "hot flies" for the parks and tail waters. Why is that?
FishinCricket Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I think you just answered your own question.. Think about it... cricket.c21.com
duckydoty Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 They work good in some parts of the parks, but the park fish have not lived in a wild stream all thier lives. They are use to feeding on pellets. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
mic Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 I think you just answered your own question.. Think about it... I see where you are going (pellet feed dummies), but they clearly take rising insects. Why wouldn't the same apply for nymphs?
redbird Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I see where you are going (pellet feed dummies), but they clearly take rising insects. Why wouldn't the same apply for nymphs? The pellets come from above so they, though not as smart as other trout are disposed to be looking up for food. Im not a Cardinals fan, but I am a Cardinal. If you know me you know what that means.
ness Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Because old flies, like old women, are rarely hot. John

Wayne SW/MO Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I don't know that the hot lists mean all that much. There aren't a lot of people who fish the parks or the tailwater all that often. I've lived in and next to Bennett and I'm not far from Taney. I also fished some NW rivers extensively for a decade. My hot list has never changed much, at least not the core of about 6 or 8. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

So whats the core? I was referring to the hot lists you see at the local fly shops...Weaver's, the shop at Bennett, the White River reports we get here every week.
