Brian K. Shaffer Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 We camped 3 nights at ROLF and couldn't hardly fish. The float was awesome, but I tore a pontoon 2nd day On a side note - those who didnt notice should see my previous post above about those Cabelas boots for $49.99. I bought a pair today. So now I am a conformist. Feels kinda rotten to me. Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Gavin Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Chief..you just a self centered self assured opinionated bung hole....but I'd like to go fishing with you sometime. Have a Merry X-mas!
Jeff Tief Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Our local shoe repair shop quoted me a $65 replacement for changing out the felt to a Vibram streamtred sole.He later said he was currently out of that sole and wasn't sure when the next shipment would arrive.I watched the MDC video and wondered how effective that would be and if some would try to do it as frugally as possible and figure we did what the MDC recommended.Had bought some Simms g-4's on closeout last Xmas and used them the last year so Santa got the misses and me some rubber soled wading boots.Lucky we have good jobs but have spent most of the last month on and off at various hospitals with youngest daughter having complications with twins that are trying to make an early arrival.keep her and the boys in your prayers and have a safe holiday season.

Members skiburd Posted December 24, 2011 Members Posted December 24, 2011 Can someone tell me what I saw one year on the NFotW in August. You couldn't even get a drift because of all the muck knocked loose by canoes and such. Was that Didymo or just crazy rampant algae bloom ?
ozark trout fisher Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 60 bucks ?? I cannot seem to find hardly any that aren't $130-$180! Well...There is always ebay. I know that may not be the most classy way to get them, but I am by nature a cheap person, so I don't really care. After a quick search to make sure that I wasn't completely full of it, I can guarantee you that you can find a pair of acceptable boots under $60 on there, provided you aren't all that picky. Or you can use rubber cement, which I think most of us can pretty easily afford:)
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 So I went and purchased a pair of rubber soled boots to comply with the ban. I went to true value and bought some sheet metal screws to use as lugs. I have since worn them on 4 trips-- current river, eleven point, white river/norfork, and the NFOW. I can't even tell a difference, in fact they are better for the long distances I hike to fish. I have waded on bedrock, gravel, mud, sand etc. Not in my plastic boats. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 200 bones for these Korkers with 2 soles included.. rubber and studded rubber. These are the new version (3.) and the sole will never give you troutble or come off. The lacing system is the bees knees... I tried on a pair at River Run yesterday. I always liked the idea of interchangeble soles but was skeptical of durability issues. I bought a pair of their Metalheads and I am completely sold on them. I figured sooner or later the rule was going to make it here to MO. In CO they had a deal where you could bring in your old felt soled boot for a discount on non-felts. I should have bought a pair while I was out there last year. After fishing with these boots I will have a hard time switching to anything else.

Korkers is also the maker of the "Svelte" product I mentioned earlier in this thread (kind of looks like a rubber version of felt but they claim it is up to standards for being eco friendly) http://www.korkers.com/soles-accessories/soles-for-fishing/svelte.html I have another idea, how about putting condoms on your boots, the magnum size for some of us of course, and studded (that goes without saying). In all seriousness, Rocky Mountain Resole will resole with Vibram Streamtread for $65 plus shipping, sucks but a good alternative if you don't want to switch boots (I like my Simms L2s, the way they fit, lace, etc)
