MTM
Just thought I would let you folks know how bad the fires are out this way. If any of you are planning on heading this way to fish please stay home. For your healths sake. In my county there are two firs burning in Paradise Valley. There is one south of Big Timber Two in Yellowsotne park and the real big one over by Nye Montana. It is over 190,000 acres and has burned 29 homes and many out buildings and a lot of livestock. They are afraid it will join up with the fire south of Big Timber on the Boulder river and become a huge fire. Not that it already isn't. They have Hazard warnings out for breathing as the smoke is so think you can't see clear more than 200 yeards. They are also closing the Interstate now and then do to all the smoke. In the western US there are now 59 fires buring that have burned over 800.000 acres. No rain in sight either. I would just like to see a switch in the wind to get the smoke out of here. I think it is a shame that People can't get together and do some selective cutting and brushing of our forests. Everytime they try and do anything they get sued by the green groups. So all of the timber is wasted and work is lost for the local people and we all lose our forests. Seems a shame to me to waste what the good Lord gave us. But what do I know? gonefishin
I hope the fires clear out soon. We had our share of them here last year. Amen on the being sued by the "green groups". Reminds me of a story I heard about a woman who went hunting with her husband. Seems she was climbing up in his tree stand when she slipped and got some splinters in a tender spot. Took the DR 6 months to get permits to remove them because they were old growth wood. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Gavin
Thats a shame, there was a lot of haze in the air when we were out there a couple weeks ago, but word was that most of the fires were out. To bad they got started again. Is the one on the Boulder on Tom Brokaw's place?
MTM
The one on the Boulder is near the natural bridge park. That is above his place a bit. Ron
snagged in outlet 3
That's a good one Gone! We have got to get together and fish. Hey MTM. Hope the fires subside for everybody's sake. Where are you located? I have been wanting to take my wife and daughter out to Yellowstone and the surrounding area but it's a little intimidatng since I really don't know anyone who has been out there. Can you offer any help? Thanks in advance. Snagged
Wayne SW/MO
Snagg most of the popular section of the park doesn't show too many scars, or at least thats was my opinion. My fear would be if it blows! Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
snagged in outlet 3
I'm sorry, I should have stated that I was wanting to go next summer right after July 4th. Is that a good time to go out there? I'm really interested in places to stay that are near good fishing and the sites in the park. I mean there are a lot of streams and rivers and I really don't know where to start. I wanted to wade fish and I like big water and dry flies. Gotta see the main sites in the park but don't really care if I fish in the park. I've heard there is an 11 mile stretch of the Yellowstone (I think) that is C and R cutthroat water where they are pretty decent size. Above the lake or something. Also a river outside the west side of the park, Gallatin maybe? Anyway you get the idea, I don't know where to start. Al least if somebody could tell me where not to waste my time that would be a good start. Snagged.

Wayne SW/MO
There are some good looking streams there, on a side note, I don't think they open until July. You're also within easy striking distance of the Henry's Fork and the Railroad Ranch. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. Gavin
Snagged, I've been to YNP many times. The population of cutts in Y. Stone lake is WAY down, so I wouldnt bother with fishing Y. Stone Lake or the river above Hayden Valley. These days your best bet for cutts is the Y. Stone below the Falls, the Lamar, Slough, Soda Butte Creek, and some of their tributaries. Larger fish tend to hold in the meadow reaches, with the smaller fish holding in the canyons. Cheers.
