Wow... pretty surprising the breakdown as to where the stuff is headed.

I sure wouldn't want to be the one who finds anything gross like body parts wash up, but you would think fish would take care of that.

Interesting... I will bet the California Fishermen are just waiting with baited lines for this summer Debris = Dolphin, Yellow tail and Tuna... I use to get crazy when the first reports of summer came in of floating Kelp making its way to San Diego.

Please tell me you're not serious F & F... :wut:

I have a feeling you're not. But maybe you are. Plenty of kelp beds in southern California. Especially off of Catalina Island. Permanent ones. Does kelp die off and float? If it does... makes sense I guess.

Dolphin, Yellow Tail (Tuna), and bottom fish (Grouper or Snapper), sound yummy. But not when they're feeding from a tsunami debris field.

Debris ball? I am still using the extra rad's given off from the reactor meltdown to recharge my tritium night sights.

Nope im serious... The kelp dies off in Baja and floats north as it does the Dolphin and Yellow tail ( California Yellowtail like an amberjack) and Tuna get on them big time... Any debris gets fish on it. Best Dolphin day I ever had was on a 4x4 wood pallet. They get on it because the bait fish are attracted to it for cover. After Hurricanes Jeanne and Frances we were catching all kinds of fish on debris.. Tripple tail to Wahoo. might seem bad but in a warped way but debris = fish. Best Day on Sailfish was 22 of them right after a hurricane they were on a debris line off Stuart Florida.

Hes right. In the Gulf if you see a piece of plywood floating you better go fish it.

We lived in Port St. Lucie for several years and used to fish out of the St. Lucie inlet all the time, until we got a new boat we got some strange looks five miles offshore in a 14 foot tri-hull thundercraft!. We always looked for weed lines (always had trash), and if you found any floating debris you would catch all kinds of fish underneath it. One day caught numerous dolphin under a piece of styrofoam, still upset to this day that I left port without my flyrod. Some guys would take tarps and weight them a certain way so they would float opened up and then go fish them the next day (I think this was illegal however). Over the holidays we were back around Stuart and it sure made me miss living in Florida this time of year!

Justin I lived in Port Saint Lousy Myself right off Prima Vista. My favorite place to fish was in the PSL Canal Spillway for Giant snook and Tarpon, I use to go to Billy Bones or Capt Jims and get all the shiners they had when the tarpon were in the canal. If the monster Tarpon were in then just go to shore and dip net up a couple dozen crabs or cast net some mullet... If the were not there the Ten Cent bridge or Old Roosevelt Bridge got a visit and then off the the power plant... Broke my heart the day they closed Big Mud Creek because of 911... A D.O.A. Bait Buster or shrimp and you could always find a tarpon or snook ready to play in there...

Now you got me missing it... So many places to fish and not enough time... Oh and South Jetty Fort Pierce for Sharks :):)

My bad... You're right, debris does attract fish. I wonder though about any nasty contaniments contained in this particular mega-field that could harm not only fish but seals, sea lions, turtles, etc.?
