Dutch Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 When they start generating at the Table Rock Dam, how long does it take for current to reach say the mouth of Beaver Creek or Cedar Creek? Any body have that tid bit stuck away in the back of their brain? I talked to a guy at the Powersite dam once and he said they saw current within 3 hours of the generation at Table Rock. That seems to me like a long ways for current that quick but he works there and should know. I don't have a feel for how quick it would be seen on down in BS though.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 1, 2012 Root Admin Posted January 1, 2012 It would depend on water level of Bull... if it was low, it'd be quicker. But I'm not a hydrologist. Good question though.
laker67 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I was told once, by a guide on the white, that rising water traveled 6 miles per hour. Don't know if that is correct or not, but it would work for what you just described on powersite.
catman70 Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I think it depends on the flow volume being released from the dam. The greater the volume the greater the velocity.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I've move between them on rare occasions and it does seem depend on the flow. You can't depend on seeing much at Beaver though unless they are generating as much or more at the BS dam. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
gotmuddy Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 It all depends on how much cf/s there is. If you figure it out you will be way ahead of the game. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Dutch Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 It all depends on how much cf/s there is. If you figure it out you will be way ahead of the game. That's the point, I haven't figured it out and was hoping someone who is there a lot has figured it out. I haven't been there in a year but plan to do some winter fishing in that area if the water doesn't get way up again. Last year it came up so fast I quit trying very early and switched back to Table Rock. I have been catching walleye on Stockton and finding a bunch of subs. I'd like to get into a good one or two to put on the smoker and think Bull will be a better place to look.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 It will come up, how much depends on the rainfall. They use BS as a storage reservoir so most years it comes, the mystery is how much and how long. Last year was an exception. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
