gramps50 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I wish you could put a kayak or canoe into the Fountain lakes. The bigger lake on the north side of 370 is big enough with such limited bank fishing opportunities that I bet most fish are out in the middle where you can't get to them... I googled Fountain lakes and it looks like there is a hiking/bike trail around them, did I see this correct?
moguy1973 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I googled Fountain lakes and it looks like there is a hiking/bike trail around them, did I see this correct? There is, but to fish the lake north of 370 you have to bushwack down through some thick brush and a pretty steep bank to get to the water. The east and south sides are pretty open to fishing but the rest is pretty rough. The other lakes are fairly open though to the banks...If you fish out there though, make sure you have your license with you. I had a game warden stop me and ask for mine one night out there last year. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Blazerman Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 370 Lakeside Park in St Peters opened not too long ago and is another option for folks wanted to fish with a boat in the St. Louis area. I have visited but have not fished it yet. http://www.stpetersmo.net/rvpark.aspx Boat on the 140-acre lake. You can use the boat launch for your own watercraft, whether it's a paddle boat, kayak, canoe or any boat with an electric trolling motor (no gas engines, please). Boat rentals are also available at the check-in station near the marina.Choose from kayaks, canoes, paddle boats and sea cycles. Fish from a boat or the bank. The lake is stocked with bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie and any number of species that have made their way from the Mississippi River. Bring your fishing gear and a state fishing license.• A 5-mile biking and hiking trail goes around the lake. There's a great view of the entire park from atop the agricultural levee on the north side. Bikes and tandem bikes are available for rent at the check-in station near the marina. Picnic tables are set up near the marina for the public to use free of charge. *Nominal fishing and lake usage fees apply beginning Oct. 1, 2011. All persons fishing or launching watercraft must check in at the RV/Ranger Station before accessing the water. The lake is closed to boating and fishing during winter (Dec. 1, 2011-Feb. 29, 2012).
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Thanks Blazer, Have you been to this lake before? Looks like a neat place to go after a trip to Bass Pro/ Cabellas to try new equipment.... Blazerman Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Been by it to look it over but haven't fished it yet.

Not sure if that is on purpose, I have done best fishing the big lake in the middle and the lake by the skate park. Actually, caught a few gar out of that lake. Mostly though I have done the best in the middle lake. Not a ton of bass, but some pretty darn nice ones and it is usually deserted for the most part.

I've fished from the bank at lakeside 370 park and that lake is pretty big but its also fairly shallow. Probably good for catfish and that's about it. We didn't catch anything there. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Members cjgentile13 Posted March 9, 2014 Members Posted March 9, 2014 Tons of luck at Lake Mallard - most bass are between 10-13 but a handful of 4lb+ (never did very well on Creve Ceour), some nice bass at Simpson, caught a huge paddlefish out of Unger the other day (snagged on a soft body minnow jig) but to the reason why I am actually writing - Where is Fire Lake? I wanna get out tomorrow and looking to try some new things.
Haris122 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I think that's the one on highway 94 pretty close to where you turn on highway D towards the Bush CA main entrance. Shortly before it if you're coming from highway 40. That Paddlefish at Unger, how long ago was that? I saw a dead one a few weeks ago when they had those 2-3 days of warm weather and the ice finally melted. I didn't think there would be another one of those in there, as rare as they seem to be. And, as far as the Weldon Lakes go, are they really closed until late April, or can you go fish them these days? Thought I read something about one more season of some type of waterfowl hunting going on until then, and that fishing was prohibited in the meantime.
