Whack'emGood Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 What about using a jig as the weight on dropshotting? They outlawed that too. Whack'emGood Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 +1, believe it should be banned. +1 more. Hey Jason. It looks like I'll have a home job soon! I'll be fishing in the Mill Creek Night Tourneys again this year. I assume you will be fishing with Todd again? If so, I'll see you down there man. Whack'emGood Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 The Bassmaster Elites are the best in the World... period. They don't need an A-Rig to hammer them. I want to see those guys amaze me with huge sacks of fish consistently using conventional bass fishing methods... one bait at a time, so to speak. Figure out the pattern, find the fish, trick them to bite using conventional methods, and then land them without using a net... consistently like they do. Do all of that, then I'm impressed and amazed. That's what I want to see as a bass tournament fishing fan. That's the bottom line to me. Do I like the Bassmasters Elite Series A-Rig ban? Absolutely. Do I care if recreational fisherman, or a tourney that I have no interest in, is allowed to use it? As long as it's legal in the jurisdiction that it is being fished... not at all. Jason Essary Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Great Whack'em. Will be there. Talked to Joe this week, as of now A-rig will be allowed. And yes, I will be babysitting Todd. bobw Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Guy's, some of you can remember having to weight your own Rogue, in the beginning we were never able to go to your local tackle shop or Wal Mart for that matter and buy a bait that would suspend perfectly right out of the package. I quit bass fishing competivly about 16 years ago. I know what it is like to "Fish for a living". I was not independly wealthy or had a job I could run from the front of a boat. I remember pawing my guns toget enough money to enter a Pro-Am and hope I won enought to get home and get my guns back from the pawn shop. Fortunitly I always did. Back in May I bought a used Range Bass boat, a 1984 335V, a well taken care of old boat and hit Table Rock again. It is like learning to fish all over again. Fishing lures, diffrent techniques, even the bass themselves seemed to have changed from what I remember. But back then you didn't have the number of fishermen that could really catch fish on a consistant basis. There were always a few that you knew would have fish and then the others that got lucky once and a while. Everything has advanced. Everyone has advanced. If the A-Rig is a legal way to fish, fish it, or don't, it's your choice. I don't like the idea of it in tournaments, but if it is allowed, I will have one tied on. I have to this point not used one, but I can think of several situations were it WOULD be a killer way to catch mutipal fish on one cast. I remember when the Front Runner came out, many times I can remember catching 2 fish on the same cast. But like alot of things, it kind of went by the way side. I still use one once and a while but not like when they first came out. I remember the contraversey with the C-Rig, whether you were dragging "trolling" it or moving it with the reel taking up line. The A-Rig will pass like most of the others have. If its legal I will use it if it helps, if it's not I'm fine with that too.
Sore Thumbs Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Hey guys. Gotta put my opinion in there too. I agree with the decision not to use the A-rig. The reason I say that it is because these guys are so good at finding fish that it is almost too easy for them to use. Not all tournaments would be won on this rig but most of them would. I think it would take away from the competitive nature of the sport. I also think this has to do with lure and bait sponsors that will not have their products being showcased because everyone will be chunking an A-rig. This rig is not a fad that will go away in a few years. This will always catch fish. I have used it once and can already tell you its awesome. Those who havent tried it are missing out. They are fun to fish! I don't think it will be outlawed anytime soon either. I talked to the guys at Hook Line and Sinker and they said that they are usually dead this time of year. Since the A-rig has come out they have been swamped. They thought that about 75% of their business was selling the rigs and accesories to go with it. This has jumpstarted the fishing industry. They said things like swivel, clip, jig head, braided line and swimbait companies can't keep up with demand. They are making rods for this application too. This is just the beginning. This rig has definitely been great for fishing. I caught this with an A-rig at Swepco yesterday. Probably wouldn't have caught her with out it.

I'm going to be interested to see what happens in the Everstart in early march. I'm planning on fishing as a co-angler and will have a rig in the box. I don't believe it will be won on the rig exclusively but I do think it'll play a major role with a few monster fish. I'm a little confused how flw can be a leader in conservation and sportsmanship and let this rig be allowed. At certain times of the year its going to be a rig or stay at home for example the shad spawn if you can get it within a foot of a dock that their spawning around it will be game over. I saw a quote from Jeff Kriet that I agree with."Allowing the rig is going to make an angler have two choices throw the rig or find a new occupation."
Iclass Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 So.....THROW THE RIG.... fishing ain't rocket surgery. Kriet is one of my favorite guys to watch, but he one of those guys that uses the hydrowave. I don't really care if they use the rig or not, I still don't belive its as deadly as the plastic worm was when it came out, but BASS seems to be picking and choosing who/what they ban. Do they really think Strike King will go under because KVD aint winning with a lucky craft oh I mean a SK crank? Lure companies aren't dumb either, they will all be manufactoring their own form of the rig and its accessories. For goodness sakes they are letting a guy fish the Elites that tried to buy fish from his Co-angler. Ban the GPS chips, side imaging, flasher units only, color-c-lector, anything technology.... Heck go fish with a stick and thread... I'm still confused on how the rig has any affects on conservation and sportsmanship. If its legal to use.
