brian prewitt75 Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I have a Lowe 1852 jon boat and am putting a bow mount trolling motor on. Ordered a mount from lowe thae raises motor up past gunnels but part came with no directions on how to attach it or the small angled piece that was sent with it. Do you weld, rivet or screw it to the gunnels? Also it doesnt look like the motor will be very close to center of the boat when lowered in water. Will this be much of an issue? I know the closer to center the better. Any info. or pics would be a big help. Spoony Slayr

fishinwrench Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Attach with 3/16 rivets and back them up with aluminum washers. Before mounting and drilling stick strips of step traction coveringon the mount so that you have a gasket between the mount and the boat....quiets things down alot, and keeps it from vibrating loose. Mounting off center on the Port side is the way to go. A center mounted TM is ALWAYS in the way when pulling up to a bank, when getting in and out, and when trailering.

Gonna call lowe tomorrow and see what they recommend. Mount has to be port side due to the way lowe fabricates it but motor straight ahead when deployed. Wanted it in center when in water but would be on side when stowed. May try n get pics up later so people can see whats really going on. Spoony Slayr
fishinwrench Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I understand the situation, but if you mount it canted towards the bow center then it'll be hanging out over the port gunnel when its in the stowed position. Knowhatimean? Some people just live with that, but it would drive me crazy.

fishinwrench Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 That's Lowe's factory mount? Ug! I hate it. I think you could fabricate something way better than that, even if you had to use a piece of 2X8 treated lumber.
